Deadly Diseases

Continuing the discussion from What's the best, short, motivation speech; heard by, or uttered by you?:

Unfortunately our enemies have stores of developed biological weapons like smallpox.

Iraq for one had it during Desert Storm, we who were among those designated to deploy for Desert Storm, and had only been vaccinated once in elementary school were revaccinated as a precaution against smallpox because of that.

There are some of those nasties available to our enemies to use on us if they choose to.

Yeah, I’m sure Russia/former Soviets have things like smallpox and God only knows what else.

My response was from the direction of “modern medicine, including vaccines, has some major wins”. Without looking, something like that.

I don’t discount the possibility of something like a proverbial, or literal, airborne ebola, or droplet (like flu/covid) spreadable rabies, or whatever other hellspawn, already existing or being created and putting us into a real life The Stand.

Understood.

One of my concerns was all the illegals from every country on the planet who likely don’t meet our vaccination requirements / standards to just visit the U.S. as tourists might be introducing to us without out even considering the possibility of sending us sick people internationally to do us harm who are here now.

I would be equally if not more concerned about what China and our own government likely have been cooking up. Even an accidental release from one of the who knows how many labs out there where people are playing with these things could cause significantly more havoc than the relatively mild Covid pandemic did.

Not to mention the countless terrorist organizations out there who could get their hands on these creations. One of the big players could even hand the terrorists one of the superbugs in order to deflect blame from themselves for releasing it. Technology is a double edged sword. For every problem it solves it seems to create several more potential future problems.

Biologicals have a great psychological impact but are becoming useless when things like Fentanyl are so easily and cheaply made and widely available. I worry much more about an undocumented having a job at a Coke bottling plant.

Food safety and security are very much critical concerns.

The FDA has strict guidelines that the food manufacturers must adhere to including plant and transportation security measures that must be adhered to.

As they understand that this is a vulnerable industry that could be easily targeted.

What if the Covid outbreak was supposed to be more deadly and after the spread it decreased in potency?

All the evidence I have seen strongly suggests that it was an accidental leak from a Chinese lab that received additional funding from the U.S. government for gain of function research.

The Chinese most likely tried to hide their error instead of warning the rest of the world. This allowed the disease to spread globally. It most likely behaved exactly the way they designed it to.

This likely was not a planned release. But if I was to consider the conspiracy route then I would also assume that Covid behaved exactly as China would have wanted it to. One of the major problems facing the world today is aging population demographics that no longer significantly contribute to economic growth and become a drain on government spending. What better way to take care of that problem than to design a disease that pretty much only impacts the old and the sick?

Totally ignoring the contributions that demographic made for 50-60-70 years.

It is a what have you done for me lately world. Use us up and spit us out when we have nothing left to give. Completely ignores the benefits of learning from past experience. Though most seem to be ignoring all the warning signs in the history books right now.

In a bankrupt world, ending the concept of taking care of those who have taken care of us is likely to be one of the cost cuts eventually put on the table. They just need to figure out a way to keep us old and soon to be old farts from voting them out of office. Which probably makes something like Covid sound like a good idea to the bean counters. No offense meant towards you @BeanCounter

My worry is with all the drugs coming across and killing our next generation, who will be around to fight the next war? Kill off our upcoming generations and population decline makes fighting a real war very difficult. What are you going to do, drop bombs at the enemy positions all day? Someone has to go take in and hold the land to stop the enemy from returning.
