Crime Is Actually Dropping

Nathan it is an election year and if you call a murder a suicide or an accident rather than what it actually was, then you can “lie” about the crime rate / murder rate. Auto thefts are “misplaced” , burglarys are “redistribution”. They did it with the covid deaths and they are doing it with the crime rate. The liberal playbook written by Harry Reid stated in part " I don’t care what you saw with your own eyes, I will tell you what you actually saw". Yes they can lie about the crime rate, and do. It is all in how you define the numbers . And also local jurisdictions and municiplaities will under report for a vast number of political motivations and agendas, if they report actual high crime numbers, they lose funding and risk being the subject of a consent decree by the DOJ.

The fine art of lying with statistics.

Around here they play the “Undetermined, Still under investigation” game. We’ve had dead body investigations go on for years.

This is an example of how you skew crime stats.

" He is accused of inappropriately touching two boys at Sierra Bonita Elementary School in Spanish Fork in 2017. That criminal case is still ongoing due to numerous delays. The next court hearing is scheduled Jan. 8."

Committed a terrible crime in 2017.

“was charged in 2018 with two counts of aggravated sex abuse of a child”

So 6 years and counting. These crimes don’t show up on any stat sheet because of “numerous delays”?

If a crime is never adjudicated, it cannot be counted as a crime I guess. Unbelievable. Good post Mike

You guys are really bending over backward to rationalize your belief that crime is rising. Is there a reason you want to believe this? News and social media know that crime sells, so there is a big focus on crime - because they want you to watch the news and click on the story. If you pick up a gun magazine, it’s full of stories about crime and self defense - becasue they want you to buy a more guns and buy their magazine. Crime reporting is big money. Are we just hearing about crime more these days, or is crime really increased? Apparently crime is dropping, but that doesn’t sell.

I think we hear about what msm and the government of wherever wants us to hear about. When’s the last time you read or saw on the news, a homicide in Shreveport, Baton Rouge, or New Orleans? I haven’t recently and i live in Louisiana. Im not saying its rising or falling, I’m just saying that just looking at state averages and relying on the news can be deceiving. Maybe if you could provide reliable statistics that show a decrease in crime in all major cities in the US, it would help. Arguing back and forth isn’t going to prove anything.

Yeah, most likely the libs have changed the definition of “crime” too.

If the libs have their way, starting up your John Deere will be a crime with jail time, while looting businesses and burning police cars is mostly-peacful self expression protected by the 1st amendment.

Think about it, I’m not actually joking.

While our mayor and chief of police tell us how much crime is down in Salt Lake City, I walk outside and I can point to 11 location within a block where someone was shot in the past year. While our mayor tells us the homeless problem is getting better I have to fight with a homeless guy that decides to spit on my and throw down because I wouldn’t give him money. While our police chief tells us crime is on the decline my wife follows a guy out of her store that just walked in, picked up, and walked out with a $700.00 leather jacket. Once cornered he put it the best, “You can’t do anything, Mall security won’t do anything and the police aren’t coming…”. I’m not bending over backwards, I’m standing straight up and looking around.

You don’t believe, but have you actually researched it? You provided one source, there are many other sources that analyze crime data.

The Guardian: The FBI released its annual national crime stats. The data is horribly incomplete

After a spike of homicides in 2020 and 2021, the rate of violent crimes, including homicide, in the US fell last year to pre-pandemic levels, even as other types of crime increased, data released this week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) show.

But experts say these findings should be viewed with caution, since much of it is based on incomplete data from local police departments.

The FBI data is based on voluntary reporting by individual law enforcement agencies, and last year, half of US police departments, including those in big cities such as Los Angeles and New York, failed to submit data for 2021.

In 2022, 83% of US law enforcement agencies submitted data to the federal government, which means that about 10% of the population is not represented in this data, according to the FBI. And while more localities are included in this year’s data release, researchers caution that department data can also be “patchy” because less than half of the nation’s violent crimes, like rapes and robberies, are reported to law enforcement

There’s more, but I am just using that as one example. That story was the first link in a query, “Crime stats 2019 to 2023”.

Jiml,
The question has not been asked on this site as yet, but, which government agency do you belong to?

And if you pick up a detective magazine it’s full of crime stories too. Fishing and hunting magazines have fishing and hunting stories along with which is the best gun and caliber for what you are hunting. That’s how things work.
