I grew up in an anti-gun family while living in an anti-gun country.
I ended up living in an anti-gun state for 20 years.
In all that time, I was afraid of guns.
I didn’t understand how they worked and thought only law enforcement should be allowed to carry in public.
Then, one day, a friend convinced me to go shooting with him.
He started out by spending a couple of hours at his house teaching me gun safety.
He tested me on it.
At the range, I was afraid to take that first shot.
Once I did, I realized the scariest thing about the gun was me.
I learned to be a responsible gun owner, and now I carry almost every day.
America is the last country on earth where gun rights are human rights, and that’s part of what makes it so beautiful.
