I have a concealed permit in Indiana and need to travel across Illinois. I’ve heard different stories. Can I carry in my vehicle crossing Illinois? I’m legal in Indiana and Where I’m going.
GO around.
Question can I carry one my person or does it have to be locked in a case unloaded.
A lot of driving out of my way. I’d like to.
So it sounds like as long as I’m in my vehicle I’m ok. Just driving through the state. Am I reading it right?
Avoid North Vegas like the plague!
But we have so much to offer here in North town. A newly opened Freddy’s Custard on North 5th and soon to open a Zippy’s on Camino and Ann. ![]()
I looked at the IL state website, but it was “down”.

I thought in IL. even of the IL resident has a FOID card, but no carry permit, he/she still needs lock it in a opaque case, unloaded, ammo separate and locked. ILL normally does not honor most out of state carry permits, not Indiana’s - I regret.
Nor fair, but I guess on the bright side, being inside a moving vehicle may have less risk of crime than on foot. If you are just driving thru - I guess you will “tend to” avoid any crime/drama per se.
Safe travels to you.
Transporting Your Firearm - Illinois State Police
OK, rural Illinois resident here…
It will all depend on where you are in IL as to what you can expect. First off, IL does NOT honor CCW from any other state. It has NO reciprocity agreements with anyone. So, I highly recommend you do not have any firearms on your person or within easy reach when traveling through the state.
IL does allow legal firearm owners to transport their stash through the state. But I would keep anything you have fully unloaded (including keeping your mags empty), and in a secure case in the trunk of the car away from any easy access. And whatever you do, do NOT remove the firearms from your car or even think about carrying one when you do things like stopping for gas.
Obviously, if you are just traveling through, you should have no reason to have any issues appear. But if you get in an accident, or even just get in a traffic stop, your location WILL make a big difference on how your day can get ruined. There are far too many documented horror stories of people doing exactly what you suggest here in the beautiful state of Chicago and Pritzker. Don’t risk being another political victim.
Illinois may not be on an ocean (unfortunately). But always remember that the powers to be here are just as ‘progressive’ AND corrupt as anything you will find in the coastal states.
interesting. Does the USCCA need to reword their Carry In Vehicle section of the app?
Clear and Concise Blood Brother! Thank you. I appreciate the ‘Facts’ as well as you’re observations but that last bit was truly Spot On! It really does matter what the LAW say’s but we Gunner’s HAVE to take into account what the Political Climate is and the Temperature of the Country is also. You can do everything ‘By the Book’ but when Guns/Travel/Carrying is concerned you run into a ‘Bent’ Leo or Socialist Prosecutor (if it unfortunately gets that far) your Goose could be cooked…and I will say this again EVEN IF YOU DO EVERYTHING RIGHT IT COULD GET EXPENSIVE OR DEADLY.
Thank you @Kenneth114 for this Topic. God Speed in yer travels. I’m am just glad I live in a Purple State. New Mexico is NOT Nirvana on Earth but there are far worse places to hang yer hat. I just Pray (and I mean that) That when I visit some of you jokers later this year I make damn sure the routes to yer houses are the paths of least resistance. Major Interstates through any BLUE Badlands is my goal. Because as @Ray109 said again a Minor Traffic stop/Accident could ruin yer day. The way folk’s use their phones, Eat, Play with themselves and oh yeah occasionally drive in their cars makes any road trip a Death Race 2026 event!
To all of us I say Check6 if you are Road Tripping it this year we are in a CODE ORANGE situation these days. Even bumping into a Socialist Road block is a possibility these days. I bumped into a ‘Protest’ the other day just doing my chores. For me I was fortunate it was a bunch of Blue hair’s supplementing their income with Soros Dollars so they weren’t even screeching their noise. Just kind of half arsed/Half hearted going through the motions BS. But in other States that could be an entirely different story.
I am attaching a PDF of the actual flyer that the State Police provides regarding this topic. The PDF layout is a bit confusing because it is supposed to be printed double sided and folded a certain way. Things don’t appear to be in order or make sense when reading it as a flat document. But if you look at it in terms of separate columns of print, it should become clear.
It does however make it VERY clear that having a permit from another state means jack scat here. So you would be smart to follow all of the rules given for transportation of a firearm within a vehicle in the state

Do they receive W-2s or 1099-NECs?
Asking for a friend from the Inner Income Public Organization ![]()
This is actually a good question in itself. I have found that the info on USCCA can be very lacking in specific areas. For example (like this one in particular), the USCCA info basically says nothing about legal transportation of firearms through non-domicile states. The USCCA info seems to be just a brief summary of the regulations for any particular state.
I would really recommend checking resources in other state if you have any more specific questions. Saying something like “But the USCCA web site says…” wouldn’t be much of a defense when it comes down to it.
An additional link to view that doesn’t require a download.
I do not believe that sh!t stirring is a Tax write off but I could be mistaken ![]()
Agreed. I for one rely mainly on the reciprocity app when I travel.
Not when you are paid in cash
