Not straightforward case. Clearly the conflict and all injuries stemming from inaction of city and police.
Agree that situations like this are likely to become much more common if LEOs continue to be put in positions where they are unable or unwilling to do the job of maintaining law and order.
Agreed, This is a S*** Sandwich without the bread.
It is only going to get worse when we continue to let the people in a position of power

Alter the course of this country (for their benefit if I may ad)
Both these people are VICTIMâS
In a WAR they didnât start.

Ya know I was thinking about this earlier. What would I like to see our LEOs do when it comes to enforcing the law? Iâll probably have ppl saying WTF at me but here it goes. Pls donât jump to the worst conclusions that you can possibly think of and apply that as the standard across the board.
When it to outlaws like Al Capone, Bonnie and Clyde, the worst of the worst type of crooks; just have the cops take them out to the big dirt nap in the sky. Then for the populace doing minor shyte, give the cops more training about our rights and respecting them. Followed up by yearly training to reenforce that respect. Getting rid of the rotten ones in prison. Also having laws that a bad cop canât jump to another division to continue their misbehavior. If a cop gets fired for cause he is disqualified forever from being a cop.
Overall I think they do a good job.
Youâre DAFT man!
That makes too much sense!
If we did what you just proposed we would have⊠LAW and Order!
(I wouldnât know how to act?)

Merry Christmas William, The best gift I ever got was getting to meet âmostâ of you!

Well my ma says I have a draft between the ears. Does that count as daft?
The homeless guy was responding to aggression by a man not responding in any official capacity who had sprayed the homeless people in their tent encampment with bear spray.
I think CA and a lot of places have the wrong approach to homeless tent encampments, but that doesnât mean other people who see such places as a blight have a right to vigilante action. The homeless manâs defense team mounted a self defense argument that the jury found convincing, in part owing to a long body cam video that showed the accused being cooperative while being treated for bear spray injuries for about 54 minutes.
The injured man seems to have initiated an unprovoked bear spray attack on the encampment.
I think there is a reticence on the part of humane minded people to arrest and imprision people for non-violent offenses like being homeless and living in tent cities. But there are other solutions that can and should be adopted as homelessness and tent city squatting also represents a pretty clear health hazard to both the homeless and the people they live among.
The following article explains a lot about the juryâs perspective on the events.

Comment from first story explains the issue quite well:
In California, if you are in an altercation with someone who uses pepper spray on you you can bash there skull in with a metal pole, and when they run from you bleeding and injured, you can chase them down and continue to beat them with a metal pole, and face no consequences. Good to know.
Unable to view your linked story as I do not have a subscription. The first story has a video where the homeless personâs friend stated he attacked the man because he was âdisrespectedâ. The video shows the man walking down the street with a metal pipe/rod, before attacking the man.
According to the video, the assault with the metal pipe/rod apparently occurred in several locations, not one incident of him assaulting the man. That would not be self-defense. If you were assaulted, then followed the assailant and assaulted him several times in different locations, you would be properly and justifiably be prosecuted for assault.
This may be a case of three wrongs donât make a right. The first wrong being local officials failing to maintain law and order and failing to respond to legitimate calls for assistance. This will eventually lead to many more cases of frustrated citizens taking the law into their own hands.
True, but we are incessantly told that we cannot claim self-defense once an attack has ended. This series of attacks clearly was not self-defense, and even the friend of the attacker did not state it was self-defense, but an assault because he was âdisrespectedâ and that one should expect to be assaulted for that.
Not saying the self defense claim is clearly justified but the specifics are a little vague about the other locations and the âfriendsâ likely drug impacted opinion of the reason for the pipe wielderâs response may or may not be accurate. So I am not 100% convinced that self defense isnât at least a plausible defense in this case.
Having just come from CA I can only assume that homeless people must feel it is completely legal to set up camp wherever they want. So if someone came to my camp on a public sidewalk and bear sprayed me and threatened to kill me I would very likely feel justified in responding with significant force. If the attacker ran away and clearly ceased their assault I would not be justified in continuing my defense. But how far away were the other locations and did the pepper spray guy completely stop the attack or was he still yelling threats or taking other actions? After being bear sprayed I might not be able to clearly see and determine that the attack really had ended.
Personally I think pipe guy, bear spray guy and the local authorities are all guilty of a variety of crimes in this case. None of them responded to this situation the way they should have.
Even though this is almost a âhe said, he saidâ, facts are limited, the TRUTH is non-existent
all parties are bending the issues/assault to fit their own narrative what you said above is entirely accurate. While frustrations (on ALL sides) are rising, The unhoused think they can âCampâ wherever they like, the âOffendedâ Homeownerâs (who have a âRIGHTâ to Peace and Safety in/around their own homes)
Frustrations can overload Reason, the âAuthoritiesâ are increasingly being hand cuffed themselves
This is going to lead to more and more violence and bloodshed. The CITIZEN because of the Socialist/Woke/PROGRESSIVE
Leanings will be the TRUE VICTIMS EVERYTIME!
They TELL us to NOT fight back
They TELL us we will be disarmed
They TELL us we WILL be prosecuted (PERSECUTED)
They BEND and break the rules when it suits them.
I donât care what these unhoused do , my opinion is they should be helped not harmed
but these progressives WANT us fighting each other. It serves their future goals.
If they truly CARED for the homeless they would HELP them and not let them spread all
over us Homeowners like SH** on our shoes.
I donât see any current Vermin .gov taking any of these people in themselves
I donât see any Resistance at the Border to help prevent future tragedies.
All I see are worse and worse decision making from .gov to create more instability and
then when the timing is right they will step in with brute force and try to OVER RULE everybody and EVERYTHING.
UNCIVIL WAR is really not far away.
Itâs like the British back in the day
You Phuck around and you WILL find out.
I think there are a lot of people responsible for our current mess. Some of them identify with the left and some with the right but I suspect most could care less about which side is in power as long as they can keep sucking money out of the system.
Right now they need this division as cover and distraction for the mess they have made. Eventually they will have to try and push the right left or both into violent action in order to create the excuse they need to step in and take away the last of our freedoms. Violent response to all these events and actions is exactly what they want. Best not to play their game on their terms.
NEVER play to your ENEMIES strengths
From the video, it would seem several blocks, and having been already beaten, not likely to be continuing anything, but attempting to get away. And the video showed the man with the pipe/rod far from where he was sprayed (shown in the other video).
