Blood Trails/True Crime in the Outdoors film series, MeatEater Podcast, YouTube

What do you think of the new video series on You Tube, related to “Blood Trails/True Crime in the Outdoors” | by The MeatEater Podcast Network Episodes ?

So far, the episodes I’ve seen have focused on “hunting” subcultures. A common theme has been hunters getting upset with others interrupting their hunting to a point of becoming violently territorial.

I suspect “fishing” has less such risk, but brings to mind strategies such as prevention, avoiding, notifying the police or state conservation warden officers.

Innocent and minor, but once fishing on a river, some youth were throwing boulders onto fish - into the water from the road bridge. I called the police but I was embarrassed I did not know my exact location. I only knew by heart the two major cross streets to get there, but my spot was a mile away from the cross streets. It reminded me to next time I fish - to write down or have more easily accessible “the exact address” in case I ever had to call 911.

You had any close calls with violence whilst hunting or fishing?

Too close to home and scary coincidence, in he video below - I visited my family there for their wedding around the time this story happened:

I have a tray of 3/4 and 1 oz lead weights specifically for those being a dick towards me while I’m fishing..

I was just watching West Virginia Confidential on prime the other night and thought of this. The scene proceeded differently but reminded me, the more remote the location, the risks increase of meeting “unfriendly” folks.

In Sacramento, you don’t have to go far. By the river where there are bike and walking trails and fishing spots, watch out for rattlesnakes but also homeless and drunk bullies.

Fishing doesn’t have a less risk in some areas. Combat fishing on the Kenai in AK for kings can get testy. Alot are drinking and all are armed.

You get a strong run year and it can get heated.

We stopped going to the Kenai river and hit smaller creeks. Less fish but hardly any people
