Best DOJ Gun Safe

What brands of small and large gun safes are recommended? I’ve seen Vaultek advertised.

IMHO the one you can afford.

My office file cabinet looks more sturdy than the Stack-On I assembled at home. Yes, it’s that cheap, assembly required.
But, I met the minimum requirements of CA gun storage laws.

Never thought of that idea. Some of those old filing cabinets that have the steel bar down one side and a lock on top. Those would be a be-otch to break in.

Mines a 40 year old American Security which I bought new. I know they’ve made enormous changes and every so often I think of upgrading. The only reason I’m putting my 2 cents worth in is because it’s been a workhorse. Has been used thousands of times and everything is still working like new. I’m now only speaking to the quality of the one I have; if I ever went to replace it this is the first safe company I’d look at.

Is there a specific DOJ approved list?

Not sure where OP resides but in CA, to be on the safe side, I bought one that was clearly marketed as meeting CA standards.

I don’t know if you have a Tractor Supply Company near you, but they usually have good holiday prices. I have a Winchester safe I bought from them. It has a programmable keypad, but if the battery is low it can also be opened with a key :key:

For quick access I have a small Sentry brand I bought at Walmart. I don’t leave anything in it unless I am home. I.e. EDC goes in it when I go to bed.
