Are there any folks out there that play with them. Maybe not the best thing for home defense but some of them are bad news
I have an American Classic Model 1377 pistol and a Gamo Varmint Model rifle both are .177. Not part of my Home or Self Defense but both will take any small game I chose. Much quieter and cheaper then a .22. Love them both and I can shoot in my back yard. 
Depends what you mean by play with. But yes, the better ones are fun to shoot, highly accurate, great for snapping in, and in the right caliber capable of taking large game (i.e. 35 cal or larger is legal for deer in Mich now)
