Agree or Disagree?

Always keep in mind that the law is state specific. You need to know the law that applies to you at the time the incident occurs.

Forgive me if this has been said, as sometimes I miss things scanning responses.

As a wilderness rescue worker, I can recognize many situations where the loss of stolen property could be a direct threat to life. This could be medically required items or others, but my example would be that of someone stealing your backpack and trying to run off with it. In many situations I have been a part of, such a theft would kill, to be realized over the following hours, or minutes, depending. Such may be true to varying degrees back in ā€œcivilizationā€ as well, and, are there not provisions for one to defend not only person, but property? specific to each location of course.

Wow! Auto theft is a property crime. Car jacking is a robbery, crime against a person. ā€œTeensā€ are and have proven capable of murder with firearms. This is characterized as a car jacking with which I agree. All the key board warriors who think it was merely a theft would hopefully be excluded from serving on this jury during voir dire. Those who don’t know, or who do know but can’t apply respective state statutes defining use of deadly force would be better off not carrying a firearm outside the home…and so it goes…

That was my thought exactly, wonder how he got that. That is like trying to get it in NJ or NY, nearly impossible if you are not a celebrity.

Confronted by a gun, your life is in danger, you can shoot. If they are fleeing you should never shoot.

The police were quoted as saying it was a carjacking, which is a crime involving force or fear. Justified.

I am disheartened to see so many in this thread sit in judgment of a permit holder with no other info than the above. There is absolutely nothing in the article to indicate this was ā€œjust a property crimeā€.
Until, further info, this shooter should be supported by this community, just as it appears that the police are.

BTW, there was one other little tidbit, the perps lied to the cops. Screw 'em.

Situational awareness is paramount when gassing up your car, especially in a bad area. Just letting potential carjackers know that you see them and you would be ready if they attempted to Jack you, would often cause them to seek a weaker target.

ā€œ(c) ā€œForcible felonyā€ does not include burglary of a vehicle, as defined in Section 76-6-204, unless the vehicle is occupied at the time unlawful entry is made or attempted.ā€
Similar to the Utah law.

Ur so right, but it’s so sad that it has to come down to even thinking about using a firearm or anything to have to now days just to get in a car to go to one place to another. I’m a concealed carry and pray that day never comes but we have to protect our families and ourselves and sometimes property. I can’t imagine what he’s going through. May God bless and keep us all safe.

ā€œOne teen was struck in the left shoulder and backā€

sounds like this kid wasn’t attacking. Still, could have been armed. Timing matters too. One can imagine endless scenarios.

Even shots in the back can be justified.
Everything depends on the situation.

As a CCW carrier, I wanted to be safe and be able to protect my family and (yes) my stuff.
The rules are stuff can be replaced, most of it, however the metal distress will be with you always, we are being told that we can’t protect our stuff unless we are in danger of our life Wyle they are taking it. we our teaching the bad people that they can just keep stilling and nothing can be done to them. Here where I’m at, the stores have shoplifter that keep coming back to the stores and helping them self’s to whatever they want and the store people can’t stop them for fear of the Law protecting the Thefts.
They say it not worth your life? so as long as we keep doing nothing it will get worse, and the prices keep going up. we are Law abiding citizen, but cant protect our self’s because of the Laws ageist us.
