Lack of Commons sense is always a Good way to get stopped and maybe even Shot! Any activity that imitates BAD Actions should be done with an overdose of Common Sense, especially considering the recent actions of unbalanced people. I am sure this guy thought he was Cool to imitate “A Bad Ass Warrior” and what happens when the person that sees him is not someone with knowledge of Rules of Engagement and common sense to follow ,observe and be ready. A new gun owner that is untrained or a gun owner that has a wannabe Hero attitude could escalate . I support gun rights but I strongly believe that training Be Mandatory.

I don’t mind it being mandatory as long as it is free and it can be available at your own convenience.

For what it’s worth, I can’t imagine a real active shooter getting out of his car with his rifle in a case. I imagine he’s going to park as close as he can to his target area and shoot his way in. A rifle case really isn’t concealing anything so what would be the benefit to him?

There are at least two big issues with that; one is who gets to mandate how much and what expense? Not everyone has deep pockets. The other big issue is that all states with mandates always increase the cost and requirements. Tell me how much time and money you can afford, and I will state it needs to be 3 days and $1,000 more. Get the point?

This day and age it’s sad that you even have to worry about mall shooters or people shooting up public places. I can see how that situation can be so difficult being the world we live in today engage the possible threat or possibly follow at a safe distance and observe. Either way if he was a real mall shooter the first shot he takes inside the mall could be someone’s life. If he was a mall shooter I think he would of shot at the first persons he came in contact with including you. But fortunately that wasn’t the case.

You must have a license to drive a car or fly an aircraft, and guess what to install a toilet. I believe that we have to get behind Some of our elected officials with commonsense to work out a plan.
With video on the net. it is abundantly clear that just like other areas, a minimum training is required. I am no longer an NRA member, but they do have a good training courses as do many FFL’S that offer training at a low cost.
I have talked to my grown boys and other shooters at the range and most believe that do not know how to engage a target, and pose a significant danger to anyone around. This dange is so great that we have discussed the need to possibly take out not only the “Threat” but also disable the the “I AM A HERO” that is shooting wildly. USCCA ALSO HAS VERY GOOD TRAINING" I grew up in South Carolina and walked with relatives hunting for several years before I would be allowed to carry a gun. Then USMC continued my training. Not everyone will have the ability to duplicate my training. The 'training to get my CC was very good and I believe was necessary. I do not agree with States like NEW YORK but a training course to get your first gun should be mandatory for everyone.
The Dems are already chastising the young man that shot from over thirty yards ( If I got that rite from the news) from what I also took away froms the news was He was Trained, took cover ,steadied his firearm and ended the threat. The training should not be very much and if it helps keep the SECOND AMENDMENT safe and secure I am all for it.

A license is not required to drive, etc. One can do most things without government approval. If government approval was so great, we would not have vehicular crashes. I have installed toilets without government approval - not difficult in the least, basic plumbing knowledge. Flying, I do not know the rules, but the Wright brothers did not have FAA licensing.
None of this is to say that training is not a good thing. No one on this forum, I suspect, would state that. The difference is government mandates are bad. I see you chose not to address how much training time you believe is necessary.
If you look at states that mandate training, one, it is expensive; and, two, they always expand the training requirements and make it more expensive. Lastly, government mandated training is different based on the state you reside in. If one needs x amount of time to become proficient, why do the other states mandate t, u, v, w, y, or z?
