I’m mixed on open carry. I would never oppose it, but also think it is kind of uncouth. Personally I would prefer to CC.
Yes, have seen that video. That is not the open carry that a rational person would do, not the OC that we discuss nor mean - no holster, in her back pocket, completely unaware. We train to be situationally aware. My IWB holsters only have friction retention, my CC OWB holsters only have retention straps. Unlike her, I am aware of my surroundings.
Personally I see no reason to advertise that I’m armed. That, in my opinion, simply increases the odds of me becoming the first target when the shtf.
I like to keep my concealed don’t want anyone knowing I’m carrying.
So, no actual facts to back that up. I have done a couple of Internet searches recently and have not found any data to support that opinion. I would be interested in reading some data to support your opinion.
Dead in my world.
I don’t know that there is any such data to support my opinion, it still remains my opinion.
Thx God we still can have opinions that don’t need to be backed up by actual facts. ![]()
On the other hand… being smart and preventive is the actual fact that supports @Bjorn’s opinion… so far nothing happened to him… because he has been smart and preventive. ![]()
The information I had found did not support his opinion. He stated his opinion as if it was a fact. Without facts, the only thing people typically believe in is God. I am not here to debate God, as that is also an opinion. That is the reason I did not response to his last post. We debate facts not opinion.
Did I miss something?
How so? I clearly stated it was my opinion, not fact.
I don’t understand why some members are not able to accept others’ opinions.
It’s not only this thread. Most of discussions are converted into “political style TV debate”. I’m right, you’re not. My right is more right than yours no matter what.

It’s ok to question somebody’s opinion, but it’s not ok to make that opinion wrong right away. This has nothing to do with valuable discussion.
I think people with strong opinions on both sides of a discussion are beneficial to broadening and fully exploring a topic. But for the discussion to be most useful people need to discuss and even strongly argue the points and not let things devolve into knee jerk attacks against the people making those points.
For me, even when I run into someone with an apparently completely closed mind who is attacking me instead of arguing against my point, I find it a valuable lesson. 2 lessons actually. What is making this person so angry and is their a better way I can better express my point without triggering them? Most people can be made to at least understand your point of view when you find a way to show you understand where they are coming from. Number 2 being that some people on some topics are just immune to reason in any form that does not perfectly align with their belief. It’s best to quickly recognize when this is the case and focus your efforts elsewhere.
The current political environment, and those ramping up the division for personal gain, does make civil discourse very challenging. Fortunately dealing with my 7 year old son gives me lots of useful practice with overly emotional and not always rational responses to my opinion:) But even when he is having an emotional meltdown his point of view is still important to understand. Sometimes the point he is trying to get across is a valid one even if his method of doing so is almost completely ineffective.
I can accept opinion. I never stated otherwise.
True, my apologies. It is just the way you posted it, I interpreted it to mean that you believe that to be true, not just an opinion. I have read that same opinion as an admonition, as it is believed to be true, on other sites and even on this site. There is no basis in fact - that is my point. We should be basing our views, especially ones that could have severe consequences to our lives, on facts not opinions.
[Edit] As proof, here is a recent post on this site:
Kind of like my individual safety being enhanced by the other guy’s open carry.
But at the same time we need to recognize that quite often we don’t have access to all the facts. Sometimes the facts we are operating with turn out to be based on a very incomplete picture of the reality we face.
Science is the best tool we have to objectively quantify the world around us. At least when done to the best of our abilities and not intentionally manipulated to match our pre chosen conclusions. But science has some significant limitations. Biggest being it can’t quantify anything if we aren’t accurately observing and measuring that thing. Equally important is that our current scientific methods can only compare a limited number of variables at one time. Which variables we choose to look at can dramatically change the conclusions we draw from them.
Most of the very important decisions we make as individuals and as a society are based on a very incomplete set of quantifiable facts. We often have no choice but to use our opinions to extrapolate beyond the available facts in order to choose the most effective path foreword. Ideally those opinions are based on solid reasoning informed by the best facts available.
Yes, I am fully aware of the multitude of issues regarding science. However, the comment was not suggestive of delving into the science and/or facts of the issue, but rather, a flippant, it’s just my opinion, meaning no thought was put into the decision. Further, as I pointed out, even shortly after I posted my reply, another made a similar flippant remark about open carriers are shot first. As I stated, it is a common myth that is oft-touted, so at least some must actually believe it. The more stupid ideas are posted/stated, the more likely people will believe them, unless refuted with logic and facts. Even then, some people will still believe the myth.
I do not OC, so it isn’t my issue, but neither will I denigrate those that do. The comment that OC people are going to get shot because they are OC, implies they are stupid or ignorant of the “fact” that they will be shot first. However, numerous stories of criminal encounters also show that is not true. That is not to say that they might not be targeted for theft of their firearm, that does happen. Officers also experience retention issues, however, that typically only occurs during encounters with criminals, such as during arrests.
Thank you.
Not a fan of open carry!
Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!

It’s how I want my adversary to feel when I draw down on them!
Offered several days ago.
Don’t like it? Don’t agree? Swell, but don’t say it doesn’t exist or you can’t find it.
What do your suppose that is proof of? I believe I recognize that as an opinion I posted not long ago. What is it that makes you think this was other than my opinion? Perhaps confusion about what an “opinion” actually is?
Where I learnt it, an “opinion” was the conclusion a person reached, based upon the information available to that person — personal experience, the opinions of others, statistics and alleged “facts” supported to one’s personal satisfaction, dogma or doctrine consistent with one’s prior beliefs — or convincing enough to support a conversion. Although sometimes offered casually, there is nothing inherently flippant about an opinion. Generally speaking, it’s pretty much all we have.
The premise that there is a “fact” anywhere in this forum is pretty much fiction or coincidence. In all of our discussions, we are expressing our opinions about:
• stipulated facts (i.e. things we pretty much all agree probably did or didn’t happen; are or are not true)
– and –
• disputed facts (i.e. things we reach different conclusions about based upon how we have processed information available to us).
There is nothing inherently wrong with either of those cases. Neither denies the existence of actual true facts. Both can recognize that we do not, can not, and in most cases will not ever know for a certainty the facts upon which we think we base our decisions. Yet life continues to totter along — running as it has for all time — mostly upon supposition and opinion; based upon merit and superstition.
I read that op/ed piece. It is not fact, it opinion. Yes, Shamrock addressed the “science” of not knowing all facts and that one needs to make judgements based on one’s knowledge and experience - that, too, is not based on facts. The entire open carriers will be the first shot is a myth, not fact, yet it is touted as such. You even admit to that in your post. You just claim that it is extrapolated, but that means it is at best a theory, not fact. Many news stories show that it is not fact - as I just stated in my last post. I deal in facts, not emotions and opinions.
