Perhaps not, but it’s a starting point for the conversation. The real purpose of the idea is not just limiting the dollar amount allowed for campaigns but to also limit all candidates to the same maximum dollar amount. By doing so we may be able to prevent a candidate simply spending their way into office. It may also level the field for candidates who speak for a less affluent segment of the population.
Implied within this limit are also subsequent regulations which would require that an office holder or candidate
proven to have violated campaign rules be removed from office and/or barred from the next election cycle.
A secondary result may be that these limits would require them to hone their message, to really focus on the issues of greatest importance and concern to the electorate.
