For daytime, it is hard to beat HiViz. I just put another set on my Henry rifle. In the dark…not so good. If you’re going to use them at an inside range, it is worth nothing that you may have to back up from the bench a bit to light them up.
Sweet, thanks. Which leads me to ask, what’s good for in the dark?
I’ve had some tritium (very popular), and don’t like them much. 12 year half life if the ones you get are brand new. None of mine have been very bright at all.
I have a few that need to be “charged” by a light source. I like those, but not for home defense, as you don’t know when you’ll need them.
A red dot or laser are probably the easiest/best, but add physically to the firearm and need to have good batteries. I like all of mine, even the super cheap ones…which is most of them.
UTG has some inexpensive units. I own a few of them and they have all been flawless…if not tiny or cutting edge. Bushnell TRS-25 is pretty great too. We’re lucky to have a lot of options. Poke around www.opticsplanet.com
personally I prefer red dot sights in the first place but iron sights are good for reliability.
Nothing.
You will not be looking at your sights, use a flashlight.
I would go for a MRDS as stated above but it is all dependent on how you train, all sights can fail, even iron sights.
Learn and train NPOA/NPOI, it will save you money down the road and you will not need to rely on sights.

$104 The rear sight doesn’t look like much here (photo shown) but
on my S&W M&P9 I can see the glow from across my room !
They are sturdy to and hold up well under daily carry conditions.

You might want to add XS Sights to your list. If you are leaning toward Hiviz then you may want to checkout their new Fastdot.
Agree with @Brad on this one. Excellent sights.
