First, it looks to me like the Mother actually started this thing, that aside, would you draw and fire on a child with a knife. I “Think” I know what I’d do but then again I have a little bit of hand to hand knowledge…
Just an innocent, misunderstood knife-wielding, good boy on his way to Sunday school. Oh, wait, that can’t be right, it was a Tuesday.
Officers reviewing video from security cameras observed what appeared to be a verbal confrontation between the woman and the 12-year-old, which culminated with the woman pouring water on the boy and the boy punching her in the mouth, the affidavit states.
The two boys with the woman then approached the 12-year-old boy she was arguing with and the 12-year-old pulled out a knife. The woman “sustained two puncture wounds to the abdomen, one male juvenile sustained one puncture wound to the kidney area, the other male juvenile sustained a small puncture wound to the back of his left arm,” according to the affidavit. The victims were treated at a hospital and were later released. One of the victims told police the 12-year-old boy had robbed him a few weeks earlier. When the two saw each other again on the TRAX platform, that’s when the woman confronted the 12-year-old.
When questioned by police, the boy said he was trying to defend himself and that the three victims took his phone and ski mask during the fight. When officers asked him why he was wearing a ski mask, “he stated that it was a fashion trend,” according to the affidavit. “I asked him why he was carrying around a knife. (He) stated that he was carrying a knife for safety because there had been other confrontations.”
This is going to sound horrible and I don’t know how to pretty it up. I lost a friend to a weaponized child and I know there are veterans who learned that same harsh lesson. From people ,who I have known, that was a painful lesson. It’s one of those lessons you learn that goes against everything a Good Sheepdog believes.
It certainly sounds like the 12 year old knife wielder is no saint. Though in this particular incident he seems to have a fairly strong case for self defense since he appears to not have been the instigator and was facing a disparity of force both in numbers and with the presence of a likely larger adult.
Depending exactly on how it all went down I might have assumed the 12 year old was the victim here. Sounds like a legal cluster to get involved in.
I used to work for the ATF minus F (at a convenience store) and had difficulty figuring out people’s age when they buy alcohol and tobacco products.
When my life’s at stake, I won’t discriminate based on age.
Based on the number of news stories about teens and preteens assaulting and killing people we have to assume that a person with a weapon, who is stating or acting like they intend to use it, is a deadly threat - regardless of their age.
Though at a certain point, based on some combination of just how young and just how threatening they are acting, I can see myself being reluctant to use deadly force and perhaps trying to resort to less lethal options first.
Hope I never have to make the choice. Especially against a kid.
A thug in the making. ![]()
Infantry is alive and well all around the world!

Evil knows no age and doesn’t discriminate who it’s unleashed on. It’s common practice for a religion I won’t mention to rig children with explosives and send them to exploit the kindness of a soldier.
That’s a hard one. I think I know what I would do too but it’s honestly hard to think about. Life and death situation though I don’t think leaves you with much of a choice. In Gavin De Becker I believe said something about how groups of teenagers can actually be the most dangerous. When I read that I started thinking about it and I think he’s right but damn I really don’t like to think about being in that kind of situation.
A juvenile stole beer from a local grocery store. When a store employee tried to intervene, the young thug said, “you’ll get in trouble if you touch me. I’m just a kid.”
And we thought having Joe was bad now we might end up with Cumalla
I absolutely avoid Teenagers. Especially groups, and most especially, if they are smack talking each other. No desire to be there.
Retail stores will fire employees who interfere with shoplifting. Other customers are discouraged from getting involved as well. Just let them walk out. Personal safety. Insurance coverage. Etc.
Can only accost shoplifters while inside the store. Once thief’s out the door, staff who steps out risks getting fired. They sign an agreement to that effect.
When I view this scenario, the question that comes to me is would I get involved in this conflict at all. Unless I am sure I know exactly what’s happening, I am not intervening in a conflict between strangers. I’ll be a good witness (from a safe location) and call 911.
If the child is coming at me or a small number of others with a knife, age shouldn’t matter, but the age of the perp may provide other clues within the context that may change my response. That’s vague. I guess what I’m saying if it’s a kid that looks innocent enough in other areas (how he’s dressed, non-verbal communication, body language, who else is around, what’s the greater context of what is happening) that it gives me doubt as to his intent to actually do me harm, it might slow or change my response.
Believe it or not I must admit I don’t know, wasn’t there didn’t hear the
argument or words exchanged , Body language etc.
I CAN say I’ve been in a position in WAR where children were attacking U.S.Troopers
and I dropped them where they stood/Charged. A hard lesson for Young Warriors
who lived to learn a valuable lesson. They Hesitated/Flinched. I FIRED.
The next time they met My Troopers didn’t Flinch. Job well done
But that’s in WAR, things are different than the streets of Anytown USA Nuff said.
In this case I’m going to fall back on Training and Self Defense discipline.
In today’s climate if I saw Mommy pour water on the kids head her two little angels confronting the (12) old it’s EASY.
‘Not my Monkey, Not my Circus’. I’m sorry I might disappoint some here but I pick and choose my Battles. This climate today will eat you up and spit you out.
If little monster boy came @ me? Weapons free, I’m going home that night. Although I’d prolly use SD (non-lethal first) see what direction the fight goes. As stated often I can’t run, escape and evade. So it’s Stand my ground, try an arm block, kick to the chops and multiple punches to the face until Success is achieved. Shooting a child these days is a losing proposition. Even with a long rap sheet he STILL A KID, Even if his ‘Juvie’ record is Sealed (and he killed already) you will be hung out to dry with these Progressive DA’S. And then the Civil Trial will drain your accounts dry. Perfect. (But just look @ the little Monsters Scott posted—Brings back way to many phuckin’ memories)
Brings back bad memories for me too brother,Roger that…
