Why not carry a full size?

Thank you for always pushing down untruths to keep the larger group in the know of the facts. Sadly, this forum is no different than others, containing a lot of opinion (or wishful thinking where saying something makes it true) and very little fact.

Illinois does get something right from time to time. Blind squirrels and nuts kind of thing.

I’m pretty sure of this as well. If trained police officers only hit their target about 20%-25% under duress, to think us mere mortals who typically just train in a stress free environment would do any better is a bit off target. Pun intended.

If the attacker is 25 yards distant are you even justified in shooting? The distance seems to make escape a better option.

Good question. Police will certainly scrutinize you on the distance.
Street crime doesnt happen at 25yds distance. If some bangers are trying to shoot you from 25yds away, it will be better to flee or take cover, not return fire. I can imagine a situation, where you are witnessing a massacre and in a position to stop the shooter, something extraordinary like this would be an excuse.

I really don’t care about the caliber debate.

I prefer .45. I like the recoil impulse, and .45 doesn’t shrink.

9mm+p to me is fine, I’d actually prefer 124 grain HST (not plus P version) so I could really reap the benefits of low recoil 9mm. That being said, I carry 9mm +p in my full size because it’s all I’ve been able to find.

It really doesn’t matter to me. 9mm, 40 45 are all great calibers. There was a time 9mm had the advantage of price, but those days are behind us :joy::joy:. Something comforting about the 45 though! (No that that matters).

Which is why I stated, “You typically will not be using a handgun for self-defense at 50 yards, and not likely even at 25 yards”. It was in reference to the other poster’s comment about not using a .45 due to the round drops more over distance, which is not relevant in a typical SD incident. The other advantage with a full-frame .45 is the size and weight, if you run out of ammo, it makes a better blunt-force tool.

My carry gun the past 5 years is an M&P .40 Compact. Small, lightweight, confident stopping power. No complaints.

Agreed, at the end of the proverbial day, the best weapon is one that fits you best and allow you to be most accurate. Reality is that today’s bullet technology has come a long way and biggest caliber doesn’t necessarily mean most leathal, there are simply too many other variables.

First post! I am a 44-46in waist and it is a very big difference l going from my g30s 45 acp to my FNH 40 cal! I think it’s about the tricks of the game. Like pulling your belt buckle to one side when appendix carrying, or wearing an undershirt to stop the rubbing or clp irritation lol. Just my thoughts

Just to follow up on how I got so paranoid on Printing. My first CCW was in California. LA County was like pulling teeth to get a CCW, I don’t think many were issued. But some of the inland counties were better. The problem was and is the panicked tree hugger, Soccer mom or basement dweller calling the police with a report of, man with a gun. Yes I had a permit. Only a officer could demand to see my weapon but if they did I had to produce it. The hassle was discouraging. And just look at how things are today, people get in a fight at wally world over wearing a mask. This is the world we really live in. So yes I don’t want to print. No it more than likely isn’t noticeable to the average person and I have never been challenged in more years than I care to mention. It just has always been in the back of my head. We even read articles in gun magazines and I think there was one in the USCCA mag once about not being obvious when you carry. Like during the summer wearing shorts and flip flops a big tee shirt and then a Vest to cover you weapon. One look around and people guess you are packing. I was very happy when Hawaiian shirts were popular. Now my hero is the guy that came out with Untuck it shirts and started doing commercials.

Agreed, same waist, my magazine holsters print more than my ECD holster would. Wearing my G30sf closer to appendix to helps

G43x with the Shield Arm 15 rd mag is a skinny G19, but with a shorter barrel. If you want exactly a skinny G19 … then get the G48. I carry the G43x on warmer days when im only wearing a shirt.

I’m really looking at the individual mag carriers that go in your pocket. I am looking for a holster for owb that will hug tight to the body but it seems if your not packing a Kimbler or sig you are out of luck. I do blue color work and printing isn’t really an option so I make it work but compact midsized or full as a big man the draw from the hip is different and the carry is different.

The picture I shared is also real. It’s a photo of two actors on a sound stage, cropped to remove the staff and equipment.
