In Minnesota obtaining your carry permit allows you to conceal/open carry a hand gun. However, in looking at the statutes I don’t see a clear definition of what constitutes a hand gun - which I think would be important. For example, is 10.5" barrel AR-15 pistol with a brace a “hand gun”?

@Steven55 Ask the State PD. That said there may be a difference between a “handgun” and a “pistol” AR-15’s as you describe fall under the federal guidelines of a “pistol”. I could be wrong but I do not recall any use of the term “Handgun” in Federal statute.
