What options would you like to see standard on certain firearms?

There are certain options I would like to see on some guns as standard. Here are some of mine.

  1. Extended slide release levers on Glocks. Had them installed on my 19 and 44.
  2. Speed loaders for the Ruger Mark IV and Glock 44. They certainly save my thumbs when reloading. They
are thumb savers. Also the speed loader and unloader for the Ruger 10/22 for the 10 and 25 round
magazine. Please note that the Sig 322 as one included.
  3. Pitney rails on certain pistols and rifles.
I use a speed loader for my 9mm magazines as my thumb is not up to it. I am fine with it as a option but I wish someone had told me sooner.

Red for dead safety indicators. I own quite a few firearms where safety on/off isn’t obvious or indicated.

The safety rules are there to be obeyed for a very good reason(s).

Iron sights on Glocks would be a heluva nice idea.

What all was involved in doing this? Is it complicated?

Ad far as speed loaders check these out:

That’s the type of speed loader that I have for my 9mm magazines. Works great!

That is the speed loader for my 9mm mags. The last extended slide lever lever I got was from The Glock Store and there was a video how to do it yourself. If you do it yourself get the spring also just in case. I had my gunsmith install it and it only took him less then 5 minutes to install it. There must be trick to do it and he did not let me see how he did it. On the plus side he did not charge me for it even when I offered to buy him lunch.

Standards?

Extended slide release levers on Glocks. Had them installed on my 19 and 44.

It cannot be a standard. It will always be an option. The main purpose of each handgun is its convenience of being easily drawn and holstered.

Pitney rails on certain pistols and rifles.

I’m guessing you meant “Picatinny rail”.
It is in most cases a standard in handguns. Handguns without Picatinny rail were just designed to not have any sharp edges.

Hopefully it won’t be a standard in rifles. There are rifles that actually don’t look good with Picatinny rail and there is no use for it.

I agree with irons sights on glocks. Those sights made from Mattel are a joke .

Im partial to a manual safety. I’d love to see it on all guns but some dont. Just my preference

Yeah me too. I get great use out of it.

Not complicated at all, but there is one thing that’s a little bit of a pita. Push the upper pin by the trigger away from the release side enough to remove the original release. Now put the extended slide release in. You’ll need to use a knife blade or tip of a small screwdriver (jewelers size) to keep the release spring below the pin while pushing the pin that last little bit back through the frame. If you miss, the release won’t have tension on it. I’ve done six of my Glock s/P80’s and it’s a 2-5 minute job.

You can feel if you have the release hole in the right spot by using a small punch, drill, toothpick etc in the hole, but the hole in the release lever is pretty large so you’ll have a lot of leeway, and having the extension sitting on your frame has your alignment covered, up-down anyways. I put my frame (exposed pin) on a piece of wood so I can use both hands holding the spring under the pin, the just push down on the frame to drive the pin back all the way.

To answer the original question. Most of my Glock type guns have extended slide releases, night sights and metal op rods. One of my 1911’s has an aftermarket front night sight, the m&p 45c has aftermarket night sights as well. Standard/ not standard, I don’t care. Time at the bench with some tools and some guns can be therapeutic for me. One of the things I like about Glocks is the square slide. Sight pushers work great on them and having flat and square surfaces makes stripping or assembling a slide very simple.

I think they are doing it just right. This is Capitalism (capitalization oop’s), after all. You have to have the upcharges to make more money off the little people; you don’t give things away. That is crazy. Next you will want free healthcare, you communist.

I don’t like external safeties on handguns. Also, one of the first things taught in NRA classes is that safeties are mechanical devices that will fail. It was also one of the first things I remember my father telling me as a very young child in regard to firearm safety. The real safety is not the one on the firearm, nor keeping your finger off the trigger, but one’s mind.

Ive had parts fail on guns and so far, none have been the external safety.

Its all opinion.

What I’ve complained about in the past are all the seemingly cutesy-fartsy safety features pistols are now loaded and cluttered-up with: decockers, chamber-indicators, grip-safeties, etc.. I wanted a matched pair of SPRINGFIELD ARMORY “XD” pistols in .40 S & W and .45 ACP, at one time - but passed them by for having chamber indicators and grip-safeties - to Hell with them, anyway! What’s happened to “press-checks”?

Some options are available if you go to your gunsmith!

Capitalization is the use of uppercase letters to begin sentences and for proper nouns (names, places, specific events, titles). Essential rules include capitalizing the first word of a sentence, proper nouns, I/first-person pronouns, days/months, and key words in titles. Common errors include capitalizing seasons, job titles not attached to a name, or common nouns.

Nice thing about “capitalization” is that there’s competition, i.e. choices the “little people” can make.

Fook, I so need to proofread what I write sometimes. I also do know for now or vice versa a lot. Capitalism.
Thanks, I will fix it. It happens when I am in a hurry and joking around; I care a lot less about every word being perfect with the perfect meaning behind it.

For “other” reasons, yes I wish “makers”, would offer more features preinstalled before shipping new. From steel (not plastic sights), and grip options. I know I can always install my own, but I would prefer the factory does it. But that’s just my view of course.

The extended slide releases do not interfere with your holster they really do not extend that far. As far as the Picatinny (thanks for the correction) rails I said certain ones, not all, maybe offered as a option when you order one.
