What is your religion and why?

I don’t claim to be an expert here. But an explanation I have heard one or twice is that Christ was quoting Psalm 22…

Supposedly any first century Jew of the time would have recognized immediately that by saying “Why have you forsaken me”, Christ was quoting that psalm, and placing himself in the role of the “suffering servant” described in that psalm. The cries about “forsakeness” in the psalm are not meant to express a doubt in God, but trust and faith in Him no matter what may befall you.

I wasn’t asking the question for myself, I asked to get people think. I all ready answered the question.

Jesus, like King David, and others was simply stating a feeling that they felt separated from God the Father . They maintained their trust, just used a poetic style to express their trust with a negative.

I am fighting cancer and sometimes I feel a separation. I pray, study and listen to praise and worship music and I’m back in the battle with renewed vigor and confidence. I, like them, know that God, is, in fact, in control.

A good resource:

Thank you for this chance to witness ones faith. And, thank you all for sharing and listening. I am Lutheran , and believe that Jesus Christ is my true Lord and Savior. I believe in the Triune God: the Father, Jesus Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit. Three persons of the Trinity, co equal, co eternal, one God. I follow the bible based teachings of Martin Luther, summarized in three phrases: Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone.
In today’s society it is so very important for us to share and reach out to each other as one nation under God with the freedom to worship and believe as you choose. God Bless you all…not because I wish to impose or force anything on anyone…but because I care and truly believe God loves us all.

My religion is much more than something you grew up with in life or talk to for help when you are in trouble.

If you refer to a name of my religion or the title of a denomination Just rememember this, if anyone is at a hospital and in going through something that they may never see home again or family, a denomination or title of a church building will not help, with all respect.

Respectfully, everyone at Uscca and Community are Loved and Cared For and I can not take it out of GOD’S HANDS and wish never to. No race or background that you may have or be can take you out of GOD’S HANDS. ALIVE AND VERY REAL.

When you feel bad physically and hurt deep down inside, a machine, can not help or save save you.

Perhaps a read of “butt prints in the sand” is needed here

You will be trying to destroy several of my constitutional rights.

You have emphasized your rights. I have never demanded you to change and you have no right to command me.

People need a better way than fighting, they are people not cattle.

Comment retracted after reading the poem…

I have avoided this thread till now simply because this topic often times ends in insults. Rather than my often times long winded reply I’ll try a few bullet points:

  • as a hunter, fisherman, diver, and general outdoor person when I look around I just do not believe all this was a chance happening.
  • Having been beside friends and loved ones as they left this life I’ve seen things that enforce my beliefs. One case was the passing of my father. In his later years he had mentioned not wanting his wife to see him die as she had a very bad experience as a young person seeing a uncle die and it haunted her. As he lay in ICU clinging to life after life support equipment was removed we tried to make his wife relax. After a number of hours, far more than expected, she decided to leave and catch a few hours of sleep because there had been no change. His oldest son drove her the few blocks to their house. Within moments of them being gone his vital signs started dropping. As he neared death, after being unconscious for many hours, I said, "Dad, I know you are ready to go, but your NO. 1 son needs to be here so if you can hold on for him… " At that instant his signs went stable and held for almost 45 min. and the started to drop again. Within 5 seconds of them starting to drop my older brother walked back in the room. Just a very short time and his body lay quite.
  • I have some doctor friends who I discussed ‘death’ with and each of them have told me of cases where they can not explain rationally what they have seen. I personally have seen a number of other events.
  • Please do not misunderstand me. I know full well the skeptic can make a strong case supporting their side.
  • Here is the deal for me. I do not believe we need to explain everything in terns that seem rational and logical to us with only our current knowledge to draw from. I have faith. I don’t need or require proof. I believe in life after death. I believe in God. I am Christian and the above is my why.

@William220, God bless you brother and you said a mouthful. I needed that testimonial. Thank you.

The only thing I would add. is that God has given enough evidence to make faith possible. The Apostle Paul called on us to “study and show yourself approved”… we don’t and can’t have all the answers. but we can look at the things you’ve pointed out and other “evidences” that ours does not have to be a blind faith, but rather, an educated faith.

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6

Here’s a thought: what if the hokey pokey IS what it’s all about? United Baptist just to let you know.

Perhaps this doesn’t belong here however I need to ask. My post was flagged by several folks. Can any tell me why it’s inappropriate. Don’t tell me to read the guidelines as I don’t get it . really would like to know

Hell of a question, daddy always taught me the three things never to discuss at the dinner table, POLITICS, RELIGION and TAXES! I’ve lived by that rule all my life.
I am a born again United States Constitutionalist. I worship the BILL of RIGHTS.
Especially the Second Commandment/ SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED!

I am not familiar with the title you mentioned, and so I do not know it’s content, but perhaps if you know what “footprints in the sand” is about, you might be able to recognize the almost unavoidable inferences suggested by the substitution used in the alternate title. It has few if any good connotations. One might, possibly? be expected to know that. Might i suggest it is the very negatively suggestive nature of that particular substitution that caused the flagging, a factor that would also lead people to skip becoming familiar with it.

Edit: No, I did not flag it.

None of which will help you in the after-life. Tho’ as a Christian I support all three.

I searched the title and read the poem… I think it misses the point of the original poem.

My guess is others didn’t take the time to research and used the almighty flag icon.

BTW, it only takes 1 flag to get your post removed. So, you do the math.

Without knowing that there’s a poem referring to it, there was misunderstanding. After reviewing the flag, I’ve added the poem to your post to help clarify (hope you don’t mind).

If that is NOT what you intended by that comment, please clarify.

Thanks. I thought it was clear as written obviously i was incorrect. Also I don’t know how to post( memes?) Images
