What is that featured hollowpoint on Concealed Carry Magazine cover november december 2023?

It looks to be folded brass into a 6 point star so that the hollowpoint should expand but not into petals.

Surprised the magazine does not have an “about” section for the cover.

Welcome to the community @John1549

It looks like Federal Hydra Shock Deep to me. It’s a somewhat newer ammunition designed to expand reliably but in general get a little deeper penetration than other hollow point bullets in the same calibers.

The petals do expand individually but they are not bonded to any lead near the tip like many modern HP self defense rounds so it is just the copper petals that expand. It comes in a few different calibers.

It is the best ammo choice I have been able to find in .380. Other .380 hollow point rounds tend to either not expand reliably or not penetrate to FBI test standards when they do expand. But the Hydra Shok Deep in .380 does both reliably in the calibrated tests I have seen.
