380 ammunition for Shield EZ 380

What target practice ammunition do you recommend for Shield EZ 380 that wont misfire, jam gun, etc? Thanks.

I have one of those. The nice thing about it is, it takes just about anything. The only ammo that had ever been inconsistent was a box of Fiocchi JHP, but when I measured the cartridges, they were out of spec to standard SAAMI .380 cartridge specs.

I buy the cheapest ball ammo I can find for plinking and practice, and only use Federal Hydra Shok Deep for SD ammo.

I have two. The only ammo that seems to be a problem is Winchester FMJ practice. That being said, both have been back to S & W for repair (both were purchased brand new) and the first one needs to go back again. The first problem was the trigger and the second one would jam every time I racked it. The first EZ is having the same problem with the trigger again and needs to go back for another repair.

I reload my own: practice 90 grain Hornady XTP, small pistol primer, titegroup powder to SAMI specifications, always start lower than maximum powder and work up to the load that works well for you and your weapon. Never exceed the maximum loads.
Carry loads I have shot SIG V crown 90 gr jacketed hollow point (JHP) in a Performance Center and all have worked flawlessly, good luck
Cover fire.

I don’t have a .380 EZ but this is how I treat my .380s and haven’t had any issues except for one lemon pistol I had to send back to be repaired. It now functions flawlessly with cheap ball (or flat nose) and the Hydra Shok Deep ammo.

I did a ton of research on ammo when I started carrying the 380. Traditionally, 380 either didn’t meet the accepted standards for penetration if you had a good expanding bullet, or you had to use a non expanding bullet and risk over penetration.

Consistently, the Hydraskok deep (there’s a regular hydrashok 380, but don’t use that, only the one labeled deep) got at least 13" of penetrstion and full expansion. There are a few tests out on YouTube of people shooting gel with your exact gun, and the results are very good.
