Weapon Mounted Light Modes

I own one Weapon Mounted Light (WML). It is on a bedside home defense (HD) pistol. It never leaves its lockbox except to test the WML battery, routine clean and lube, or a trip to the range.

My question regards the modes available on WMLs. Mine has three modes; Full brightness, Reduced brightness, and Strobe. It turns on in whichever mode it was in when last turned off. Cycling between modes is time consuming and definitely something I would not consider in an event.

So, what mode do you keep your HD WML in and why?

Mine has the same three settings, and I keep it on the dimmer of the two settings. In the dark, especially if awakened, the bright setting is too bright for my eyes. The strobe may be useful in a specific situation, but not as generally useful as just on. Your mileage may vary.

TLR-1…stays in the OFF position….if/when needed goes to the ON or momentary ON.

Same here. May I add, when it’s dark, all light looks bright.

Tlr-6. Set for light and laser. Stays off until needed. Laser zeroed at 12 yds. If ever needed, light to identify and laser to hopefully deter. In worst case scenario, laser to provide positive aim without having to acquire target with night sights. Also want to be damn sure dealing with real threat that calls for this degree of force.

Mine is an economical model, Crimson Trace CMR-208.

420 (high), 110 (low) lumen white LED plus strobe.

I keep mine on the high setting which is probably on the low end for most of you.

I don’t like the strobe setting, but I was curious to see if any of you saw the benefit of your intruder possibly being photosensitive epileptic (I used to install Fire Detection System Strobes).

Some night, take your flashlight and shine it down the hall and see what you can see. Then shut it off and see if you can see. So then tell me how well your light helps you and how it can be a problem.

Lights are good and bad…I’ve got several, main drawback…just gave away your position. I wish I could get my hands on a case of flash bangs..or He….Willy Pete’s…oh never mind.
