USCCA news feed scrolling freezes?

In the USCCA app for the last month or so I can scroll the list of News Feed articles no problem but when I tap on an article to read it, I can still scroll but the remaining body of the article text is hidden (frozen) past the first few sentences. Essentially the rest of the article hidden behind the Related Articles tiles at the bottom therefore it can’t be read. iPhone 12, iOS 15.1 (also happened on iOS 14). USCCA IT is looking into it, and I’m wondering if others have same problem with that app’s News Feed.

iPhone 12 mini, iOS 15.1.

Not a problem here at all. Which cellular network are you on? Are you using the app on WiFi or the cellular network or both?

I’m on Verizon 5G or Spectrum 200Mbit Wi-Fi depending whether I’m at home or out and around, but it happens in both cases. Pretty sure it’s an app problem or some quirk of how iOS is handling this particular USCCA News Feed app, and not likely a network upload/download problem as such. I can use the other app on my iPhone - USCCA Dashboard - to find the same article on the USCCA web and it scrolls just fine. But, that’s from outside the News Feed app. Have opened a trouble ticket with USCCA IT along with screenshots and a short screen video showing the problem. It actually all worked great up until a month or so ago when the USCCA app was updated. Curious if others see it. Thanks for your reply.

There was a similar issue reported in July 2020, but it was fixed in version 1.5.3.
I do not see single issue since then, even the app was updated again already.

Thanks Jerzy for the reply.

I have the app version 1.5.5, I’ll assume it’s the most recent.

I’ve attempted to paste the iCloud link to the screenshot video I did last week, it’s only a few seconds (but was a 34MB video, too big to paste here).

Hopefully you will be able to view it from the iCloud link below.

What stands out is the half-line (bottom half chopped off) which is frozen behind the Related Articles, even though the entire article window scrolls (but the text does not - it’s frozen).

First couple seconds is me just scrolling in the main News Feed to show that the scrolling works OK there (which also tells me this is not a network upload/download problem). Then, I click on the Indiana concealed carry article, which slides in quickly from the right (like usual). However you can see a half-line cut off, and when trying to scroll through the text, it doesn’t. It’s frozen behind the Related Articles at the bottom - which should remain at the bottom until after very last line in the entire article.

I submitted that plus some static screenshots to USCCA IT but have not heard back from them on a fix. I checked just now and it’s still frozen.

Click the iCloud link - I hope it works.

No issues on my end with IOS 15 on an SE 2020.

When all else fails an uninstall and reinstall of the App often works for me.

@Mike287 ,
I watched your video. It is weird, but no issue on my phones.

I would recommend to try @Shamrock’s advice.

Thanks to both of you Shamrock and Jerzy.

I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app several times over the last few weeks including phone reboots and the issue still exists (yep usually a reinstall fixes my app problems but not for this one). Note that I do a full uninstall (not the remove from Home Screen).

What ver of the app do you guys have? I’m on 1.5.5 and I’d assume during a reinstall it would pick up the most recent.

Glad you were able to view the vid.

It’s interesting that the main News Feed screen scrolls perfectly up and down but when I tap a single article, it’s as if the Related Articles don’t stay anchored at the bottom - they scroll up with the article instead of staying still (to allow just the text of the chosen article to scroll into view).

MIke, I will send you a DM to see if I can help you out with this. Not sure why it is happening. Could be a service or internet issue and not being able to load everything.

Also, might be a good idea to fill out the app feedback form under the “more” tab.

I wasn’t sure which version was on Iphone, so I just reinstalled it, so this time phone run the newest one.

No issue showed at your video. I swept left from main screen and Feeds are scrolling without single problem.
It doesn’t matter if I’m logged in or not - still all good.

1.5.5 is the latest and seems to be 7 months old.

Thanks Tim.

As far as service or internet issue everything else on my phone works fine including all the other USCCA apps and web links. They work and scroll great.

I also have the Shooting Illustrated app which is similar to the USCCA News Feed - you scroll thru a main list of articles and tap on the one you want to read. The whole article scrolls just fine, and their “Related Stories” links scroll up from the bottom, following the end of the article.

I guess that’s the main issue I’m having with the USCCA News Feed - the “Related Articles” tiles are not following the end of the article. Instead they are pasted in-place after the first several lines and thus block the rest of the article (as you saw in the video).

I did fill out the App Feedback a couple times several days ago. USCCA IT should have a record of those submissions from me.

Another issue with the app is the App Feedback screen itself. Very difficult to enter text as it is black text on a very dark gray background. You’ll see that mentioned in my App Feedback from last week too.

I also initially wondered if it’s some kind of issue of the text loading, except that there is often a line cut in half (you can see the tops of the letters but bottom half of text is occluded by Related Stories) which likely indicates the text has loaded OK into the app’s screen text buffer but that it’s being overlaid by the Related Stories tiles which block the remaining article text underneath, because the Related Articles tiles “stick” and scroll too, along with everything else.

And that the main News Feed scrolls from newest to oldest articles just fine - no problem loading that screen.

Indeed it is strange.
