Between May ‘19 and Feb ‘21, Iran began rapidly decreasing its compliance with the IAEA and restraints on their nuclear program/uranium enrichment. By 2021, the IAEA, their measuring equipment, surveillance and physical inspections were mostly disallowed by Iran.
Uranium is enriched to 3-5% for civil purposes.
Uranium is enriched to 90%+ for weapons.
The bomb used at Hiroshima had ~140lbs of enriched uranium.
As of May ‘25, IAEA confirmed that Iran had at least 370lbs of enriched uranium to 60%, plus ~1200lbs that was enriched to 20% and being processed for further enrichment.
Enrichment time from 60% to 90%+ is 2-3 weeks.
From 20% to 90%+ would take a couple of weeks to about 2 months, depending on the facility(s) capabilities.
In other words, Iran’s nuclear program was far in excess of their stated “civil use”.
Maybe, do a search, there’s a lot more than just him saying it. I don’t know if it’s real or not but none of Iran’s remaining allies can be very happy about the U.S. and Israel joining forces so blatantly and basically launching a first strike on Iran.
Don’t get it twisted, I’m on our side. I support our troops, and anyone who has been here longer than a hot minute knows I respect the Israeli military. But Netanyahu has been saying Iran is on the verge of getting “nukes” in the next few months for decades.
If, any of those allies think this is a fundamental shift in America’s MAD policy, they may go for a first strike themselves. I’m just saying this is a whole new ball game
Wait… What does it have to do with MAD? There is a nuclear non-proliferation treaty, and Russia and China did not reneg on it. There are many Chechens who dream to see Moscow glow, not to mention Ze. They have vested interest in keeping the treaty intact. Iran, on the other hand, has been violating it, vocally, declaring how much fissile material they entiched in spite of American and international pressure. What Trump ordered was not a 1st strike, but enforcement of the treaty to which Russia is a willing signatory.
