Underwater Shooting Ballistics Video

Just came across this “FullMag (2.5M subscribers)” video from 2013 shooting a 9mm underwater. I found it interesting and educational, and thought some of you might enjoy as well:

Interesting, I watched an interview of a former SAS operative. Someone told him you can’t kill people with guns underwater. He got mad explaining he’s seen people die from being shot in water.

Actually if you are going to shoot a shark underwater like that. It’s better to shoot them in the gills. Pretty equivalent to a neurologic stop on them.

If spearfishing you can usually handle one “frisky” shark by maintaining an aggressive posture and poking it hard with your gun if it gets that close. Two or more is harder to keep up with. Most commercial guys I’ve talked to recommend putting a free (untethered) shaft in the gills as you suggested. Sharks are not used to being attacked, so the shot one will take off with what used to be his buddies chasing after for an easy meal.

Yeah, me and a friend were spearfishing (had gotten a couple of good Grouper) and I had to use my bangstick on about a 10 ft Bull shark, we were at a decompression stage so couldn’t leave it,(bangstick is basically a one shot 12 ga. contact round) hit him in the gills and he went spiralling down.

Wow! Better you than me :hushed:

I’ve dove Daytona down to Fort Pierce since early 90’s and most of my “escorts” are sandbar sharks. I had an encounter with a big bull off Stuart about 20 years ago. I bought a 7.62 PPD the next day. I have half a dozen of them now and never needed one since. :+1:

BTW, I am a no deco diver. I usually get five 100 ft drops out of three HP 104’s.

My brother in law, my nephew, and I built our own reef out in middle no where in Gulf. Little deeper but we hoped it would keep casuals off it. We used a shrimp boat to get some stuff out there.

That’s pretty hard core Dude. :+1:

I have not dove the Gulf mutch, but did a 3 day Middleground trip on the Jolly Roger back when they took recreational guys like me out there. My cooler wasn’t the fullest, but had my PB hog in it. Nothing to brag about by MG standards, but @ 13 lbs, I’ll probably never break it.

You still dive?

No, to many medical issues. I free dive some but body won’t take real deep.

That’s pretty interesting to watch. I guess I’m gonna stick with FMJ’s for my underwater John Wick action battles…

You might also find “Mythbusters” Episode 34 interesting (I can’t find the video). They shoot a few calibers (including the BMG) into water. These guys aren’t experts on a lot of the things they do and I wouldn’t bet my life on their info, but it’s interesting none the less.

Here’s a vid of the last part of the testing:
