I need direction on how to transfer a suppressor from my deceased son to me. I am in Michigan, have all his paperwork including tax stamp and death certificate. I am a cpl holder but never applied for tax stamp. Any help would be extremely appreciated.
Welcome @Tracy56 ,
I’d help you if I could. I’m sure someone will jump in.
I just reread your post, I am sorry for the loss of your son. I can’t appreciate what you are going through ![]()
I have no idea. Welcome to the community. Sorry for you loss.
Greetings & welcome, Tracy!
I am sorry to hear of your loss and I wish you & yours the best.
Your best bet is to visit a local dealer/FFL, one that sells silencers. I’ve attached a link below for SilencerShop, specifically the dealer locator page. They’ll need to take a photo, get your fingerprints & info.
This is another paperwork handler for silencers. While I am not familiar with them, they may be able to guide you further specific to Michigan.
Good luck!
I’m not sure. I have a trust so when I croak they are already good.I can find out. Ide say you probably just have to do the appropriate paperwork.
Welcome!
…and probably need to pay the $200 Tax Stamp
Sorry for your loss, my heart would be devastated to loose one of my boys.
Unfortunately the tax stamp thing was all that has been removed, they’re still NFA regulated.
Here’s a link to silencer CO’s page about inheriting a suppressor;
Takes effect Jan 1st, 2026
It’s the reason I have not bought one yet

Thank you everyone. He did not have it in a trust. Spoke to sellers and they said its a private transfer. Spoke to trust attorneys and they said call atf directly and roll the dice. They will either let me do a form 4 simple transfer or not. It will depend on the mood of who answers phone. Seems a little ridiculous. Waiting for local atf to return phone call.
That hasn’t went away yet? I thought that part passed.
It did, it’s just not in effect as of yet.
Hopefully they will make it fairly painless and it will just be filling out the form 4 at an FFL.
@Tracy56 Welcome to the community, and very sorry for your loss of your son. Great input from the community and see that you already are looking into transferring over the suppressor so hopefully it’ll be smooth for you.
