I know that there is a lot of news about the event. There has been warnings about different things going on. Food, gas, cell towers and even law enforcement will be limited.
My worry or question is: Do any think or believe that there will be bad mischief going to happen during this time.
LEO and other emergency personnel will be attending other events or very busy to get to places if SHTF.
Hopefully individuals will be able to take care of themselves and/or protect themselves from harm if the bad guys use this opportunity to do something bad.
This is from the Entergy website from Arkansas where I live.
Visitors and traffic concerns
The massive influx of visitors expected in the state will cause challenges with transportation and traffic management that will likely impact Arkansans during the solar eclipse. Additionally, the possibility for severe spring weather, potential fuel shortages and other emergency events is being considered by state leaders.
With hundreds of thousands of visitors expected throughout the natural state during the eclipse, heavy traffic could make it hard to travel, especially immediately after the eclipse has passed. Arkansas transportation officials say residents and visitors alike should be patient and expect traffic jams.
“Increased traffic in a given area can cause concern for accident-related outages,” said Adam Effrein, Entergy Arkansas vice president of reliability. “If a vehicle hits a power pole, it can knock out power to the area until repairs can be made. In addition, cars parked to watch the eclipse could block crucial entrances to substations and electrical equipment that could hamper response times, should a power outage occur.”
Ah, lots of people traveling to places that don’t usually have lots of people, to view it.
Their suggestion to expect traffic jams especially right after the eclipse seems solid
Have your fuel tanks full now and don’t let them go below 1/2 at lowest until a week after the event, I’d say, if you live int he path (though I’d say that anyway lol, never go below 1/2). Maybe a couple 5 gallon cans on hand with gas too, if you don’t already
I live in San Antonio, Tx… we are on the eastern portion of the eclipse. I am not making any extra provisions for this event. When I was stationed on Oahu in the 90s, we had a total solar eclipse. Some of the same conversations were asked & there were no adverse effects from the event. We really didn’t have cellphones so that was a non issue. If the cell towers do go down due to the massive amount of people that will be in our area to witness the event, I think that we’re going to live through a (no cellphone) period.
I think anytime you have a situation where LEOs will be busy dealing with crowds and you have larger than normal gatherings that there will likely be some increase in the chances of criminals or other bad actors trying to take advantage of the the extra targets and distractions. Though I doubt the chances will be any different than when areas host large sporting events.
I would plan for a slight uptick in crime and some cellphone tower congestion along with maybe some emptier than normal store shelves in smaller towns for a few days before and after the event. Though there are plenty of other serious things that could go wrong in this destabilizing world along with the usual major and minor natural events that occur from time to time. So it makes sense to be prepared for a variety of potential disasters to strike at any time between right now and the rest of our lives.
I doubt that the eclipse will produce anything out of the ordinary. Didn’t happen with past eclipses, so I don’t know what this one would be any different.
If you’re looking for a SHTF scenario, eruption of hyperinflation is a bigger risk than an eclipse as far as something that could result in societal meltdown. The government runs on printed/borrowed money for its social programs and military adventurism. Printing money devalues the currency and fuels inflation. Lots of historical examples of when money printing got out of control and hyperinflation was the result.
