I’ve got 12.5" and 14.5" “CT Others” in 5.56. The 12.5 is noticeable louder, but being a rapid report as opposed to continuous maelstrom keeps the pain away. No issue with standard ear protection, at least not with my compromised hearing. Think my loudest guns are the 12.5" other, the tactical 12 gage, and my .308 Ruger Precision, with that gun having the biggest “bang” of the 3. Being all metal, from tip to butt, offers no solace.
Jump start for my tinnitus.
I remember reading a union notice about work injuries and it stated that more people commit suicide after losing their hearing than when they lose their sight.
10-4:us:
Or speaks and looks away watching something moving. I don’t comprehend the last part when she looks away.
You must be a south paw.
Yep.
- they say we have “ selective hearing “
- why don’t you get a hearing aid.
- talked to herself and I say “ Speak up “
- why is the tv so loud “ so I can’t hear you talking to yourself “
- don’t you hear the door bell, “ what bell “
- don’t you hear the timer on the stove “ I don’t have to cause you let me know “
- what if some one brakes into the house “ just let me know “ but if you wake me up keep away or “ I KILL YOU “
- when the seller light is on I yell “ is there anybody down there “ I don’t hear yes or no so I shut the light off only to get yelled at “ why did you shut the lights on me “
** well at least everyone’s sense of smell is still ok. The other day I opened up a package of meat and I said it was bad. She left the room and I let one go, she came back in the room and said ya that smells bad,
Payback is a bitch.
I KILL YOU !
I’m trying to preserve what I have left. On a long drive, I wear earplugs. When I’m shooting, I wear earplugs and earmuffs over the top.
I double up also but I just ordered a good set ( 30 db )
30 dB or 30 NRR?
How does NRR change decibels of exposure?
When hearing protection is worn, your level of exposure to noise is based on the NRR rating of the protection device being used. Keep in mind, however, that while the NRR is measured in decibels, the hearing protector being used does not reduce the surrounding decibel level by the exact number of decibels associated with that protector’s NRR. For example, if you are at a rock concert where the level of noise exposure is 100 dB and you are wearing earplugs with an NRR 33dB, your level of exposure would not be reduced to 67 dB. Instead, to determine the actual amount of decibel deduction applied (when decibels are measured dBA which is the most common), you take the NRR number (in dB), subtract seven, and then divide by two. Given the previous example, your noise reduction equation would look like the following: (33-7)/2 = 13. This means that if you are at a rock concert with a level of noise exposure at 100 dB and you are wearing a hearing protector with an NRR 33 dB, your new level of noise exposure is 87 dB. If you are wearing a product with an NRR of 27 it would deduct 10 decibels (27-7/2=10)
Yep, it’s causes everyday life long problems. The strange thing is when it’s quite the pitch of the ringing will change with no reason or warning.
I read a long article about tinnitus and it claimed it was caused in the brain sensors from over stimulation, not the ears. Some times white noise helps. I’m waiting for a expensive set of ear muffs I ordered for well over $$$$, yet I use a set of wireless ear phones i paid $ 49.00 for music that blows my brains out. The wine could be to blame
for that.
At least when I usto go to Therapy I could honestly say I didn’t hear voices in my head.
Found out what you mean by the AR noise the other day. When I shoot mine, they’re no where near as loud as my .308 RPR, short barrel 12 gage, and maybe even a bit quieter than my M1a Scout…but I let my neighbor shoot the 12.5" AR, and stood next next bench over…and the thing rattled my ear, and a bit of the surrounding skull…flash hider, not a brake…but dang. That one will be getting a silencer once the ATF approves it… hopefully soon…
I’m done done, I went all thru this before. If your happy I’m happy for you, It’s your hearing but just remember you only live twice.
It’s nice not to get rained on in a outdoor range with a roof but it’s a lot louder.
I’m not trying to annoy anybody. I’m trying to point out that 33NNR hearing protection is not a 33 decibel reduction.
Feedback isn’t annoying, but tinnitus is.
No worry.
