This is needed. At the moment, if you have a school function in church, like it was in recent Minnesota tragedy, the only armed people allowed around a school function are active LE personnel. Church security team must be empty-handed, church goers, clergy are not allowed any tools of protection. Well, it is difficult to arrange for police presence! Not to mention, expensive. Prohibitive.
I sure hope Massey’s effort bears fruit.
Especially in this most recent case where the governor denied their request for funding.
In Nevada all one needs is written permission from who is in charge of the school to carry in the school. IDK why it would be any different in any other school or church.
This is news to me. GFZ on school grounds or during school functions not on school grounds is supposed to be a fed rule.
Robert is correct, my SIL works for the school district in NW NV.
My question is, Didn’t that slimeball shooter see the no guns allowed signs all around that school?? And he went in shooting anyway??
good point should make great meme maybe???
Look under written permission.
In Nevada, it is illegal to carry a firearm in or on the grounds of a public or private school, including colleges and universities
. Carrying a gun on school property is also prohibited under federal law, but both Nevada and federal law provide limited exceptions.
Main prohibition
Under Nevada state law (NRS 202.265) and federal law (the Gun-Free School Zones Act), firearms are generally banned in or near schools.
Specifically, you cannot carry a firearm in:
-
Any facility of a public or private school.
-
Any facility of a college or university within the Nevada System of Higher Education.
-
Areas within 1,000 feet of a school’s grounds.
Limited exceptions
Nevada law provides the following narrow exceptions for possessing a firearm on school property:
-
Written permission: You may carry a concealed firearm if you have written permission from the person in control of the school property.
-
Locked vehicle: You may transport a firearm in your vehicle, but it must be unloaded and stored in a locked container or a locked firearms rack.
-
For school programs: You can possess a firearm if it is part of a school-approved program, such as a firearm safety course or a sport.
Additional considerations
-
Concealed Carry Permits (CCW): In Nevada, even a valid CCW permit does not give you the right to carry a concealed firearm on school property, with the exception of receiving written permission from the school.
-
School employees: Some states have exceptions for armed school employees, but Nevada law does not explicitly provide this. Any such arrangement would depend on a school’s specific written authorization.
-
Legal advice: Gun laws are complex and frequently updated. It is highly recommended that you consult with a legal expert for advice on your specific situation.
I wish they would get rid of gun free zones I’m sure folks would be amazed on how an armed citizen or 2 could stop this crap. Just knowing someone could be armed is a hell of a deterrent
You’re killing me @Karacal ! ![]()
