I think creating a community as such, within the boarders of the United States violates the constitutional freedom of religion and separation of religion and state.
Effectively they’re trying to set up their own independent nation in the heart of one of the most patriotic states in the union.

Agree. Islamic or Shira law can not coexist with the US constitution or federal/state/local civil or criminal law. The constitution protects their right to peacfully worship Allah, but not their desire to do anything to anyone else, such as Islamic punishments, or to even force their god onto others.
Worship of a god is not the same as imposition of a “law” on others. The problem is, within Islam, worship and their law are inseparable.
