It’s harder than one thinks because there’s zero time to get a good sight picture.

If you take the time to obtain a good sight picture, you’re going to fail the time constraints of the drill.

Does this mean you would need to just point shoot and not line up your sights?

Yes, failure to get off the number of rounds in the allotted time means you’ve failed.
