A good read on this topic is Adam Fergusson’s book “When Money Dies: The Nightmare of Deficit Spending, Devaluation, and Hyperinflation in Weimar, Germany” (2010) where he describes how ordinary Germans coped with the hyperinflation-fueled collapse of their government.
