Snoozing while carrying

Is it responsible to carry a firearm in a public place (such as on public transport or in a park) and doze off?

Only if you very very comfortable in your environment I guess.

Carry concealed or open?

I’m thinking there’s less risk with concealed since nobody knows you’re carrying. The only risk is you will not be able to react quickly if there is a threat.

Dozing while open carrying might be more dangerous. It’s an open invitation for someone to take your firearm.

I can barely sleep at home…certainly not zonking out in public.

While I think it’s best not to, I suppose it also depends.

I used to ride a suburban commuter bus to work in a downtown office. In the evenings once we had made our last pick up I would occasionally snooze because things were normal with people I recognized on my daily commute.

However I would NEVER, EVER, NOT EVEN ONCE snooze on a city bus or on the light rail train or in any other public place. In these situations one must always stay alert.

That’s just me.

IMO it is irresponsible to be in a public place, and sleep.

Double down on that if armed.

Asleep in a public park? Nah

Sure, just make sure your weapon is visible in case someone needs to borrow it.

Have you seen the subway … How are you going to sleep with the homeless masterbating on the train … You are for sure going to get shot with goo …

How about someone very competent in concealed carry who dozes off on the cummuter train and is startled awake by a sudden loud noise and a bump? What could possibly go wrong?

Shoot the amount of medication I have to take at home in my ideal sleeping environment for less than 3 hours a night is st00pid, so Im not falling asleep in public anytime soon.

When I played TTRPG’s back in the day. I used to keep a list of unique names. One of the funniest was from an African American at one of my stores ( signed her credit contract and we had to verify with state issued ID. Her name was

ShuhTheed W*****

Shithead, I kid you not.

That’s hysterical! Totally what I would do/expect if a teammate or I fell asleep during drills.

As to the original question,….

I have certainly slept with my gun on me,… in my RV camping…. But not in a public setting.

The only public space with people around that I might be willing to let my situational awareness go to zero would be on a long flight where I and the other passengers would not have access to a firearm.

Though when boarding planes I usually notice at least one or more people that I am not entirely comfortable allowing to completely drop off my radar so I almost never snooze there either.
