Yes! The Ruger Max-9 that Colion Noir marketed is now available to subjects in California.
My CCW permit is up for renewal early next year and I previously mentioned I’m listing my two 1911s (a full size and a compact) as my carry guns. To those who live in free states, yes, you read it right. The permit clearly describes the brand, model, caliber and serial number of the handgun(s) I carry.
Another option I seriously considered was buying my first Glock, most likely an G43, and adding it to my permit.
Ruger’s renewed interest in the CA market just gave me a cheaper yet effective option.
Another plus is I’m a Ruger fanboy.
The Max-9 is an upgrade in capacity to my current EDC Shield 9 but surprisingly slightly thinner. It’s also comparable in size to the G43.
So, I just pulled the trigger and bought one today.
So in Calif. what your saying is, you gave Saliva, Blood, Hair, Semen, Retinal Scans, Facial Scans, Dogs name and sex, Sisters Madden Name, First and last names of every person you ever got naked with…?
So how did Ruger get around the micro stamping law? I thought they just tweaked the law to allow for only 1 micro stamp instead of two on each fired shell casing. But as far as I know no one has invented successful micro stamping technology for even one stamp. Not that it matters since criminals could easily file the stamp off or just replace the firing pin.
I also thought the tweaked law required taking 3 handguns off the roster for each new handgun added. So which three got removed? With that law in effect it makes sense for CA to start approving as many handguns as possible. Then eventually they will only be left with the last handgun they put on the roster which will probably be similar to the one in @Karacal ’s photo:(
At any rate, however Ruger did it (hopefully they didn’t need to sell too many souls to the devil), I’m glad you folks in CA now have access to a modern compact 9mm pistol with decent magazine capacity. Even though you are still limited to the 10 round option.
Until the Max-9 was advertised last week by a LGS, I didn’t know of this development. Rumor mill is silent too on the matter.
It used to be a big hobby of mine to look at the “Roster” on a daily basis, back in the early days of gun ownership when I wanted to have the latest toys.
Thankfully, the righteous State intervened and imposed the microstamping requirement. I have since lost interest when for the longest time, only the LC380 was on the roster for Ruger semiautos.
I can see how the CA roster would be a big money saver:slightly_smiling_face:
I suspect you’ll like the Max 9. I haven’t tried one but I really like my little LCP Max for a pocket carry pistol with a good capacity.
The Max 9 should be similar to my P365 which I find easier shoot than the LCP Max. The larger caliber is balanced out by the larger grip and increase in weight though it is still a very concealable package.
Who gets to decide which 3 get removed? And which 3 did get removed?
Seems like a good 2A future case. Along with the unconstitutionality of roster itself you now have firearms arbitrarily getting pulled off. That math leads to eventually only one or two handguns being left on the roster if they keep allowing new ones to be added.
There’s possibly a pending case right now.
I only became a gun owner 10 years ago and feels like I joined a marathon two hours after it started.
Makes me wonder how it was put in place 24 years ago, what kind of opposition was there, and who fought for 2A rights when the bill was first introduced.
