Theyāre good for getting your feet wet in 1911s However if youāre going up to Alaska get a 10mm instead of a 45 acp. Hunters in Alaska switched to the 10mm for good reason it hits way harder than a 45 due to the massive difference in velocity and the weights being comparable.
Hey all, I thank you for the input and to let you know things took a turn last night in a good way!
I got a really good deal on a Kimber last night! It is chambered in .45 and when I get it in Iāll post pictures.
I love my Kimbers my 4" Raptor is my EDC You will love it
I have carried my Rock Island .45 all the time. I hope i i never have to use it. But I do know at close range you can not have a better weapon. I was in the ARMY for 23 years. The 1st 10 years I had 2 weapons my M16 and my 1911 .45. That 1911 .45 will put a hurt on something at close range. I will hit at 50 yards, but I practice at 20 yards and closer.
Welcome to the family brother @Roger144 and you are in the right place at the right time.
Welcome to the group. I am hoping Iāll never have to use this either.
Iāve got a baby Kimber in .380 that I loveā¦Iām hoping I have the same affair with the .45
Thatās great. Just keep in mind the other suggestion to get a 10mm if Alaska is your destination.
While there may be better caliber options for that specific application, use what you can. If youāre unsure about the 10mm recoil, see if you can rent one at your local range to try it out. Then if that doesnāt work, stick with what you can handle.
Congratulations on your new 45!
If I was going to Alaska, Iād consider something like theseā¦
They are on the short list to go on that trip
I have two Rocks in my carry rotation. Both are double stacks, one is the .45 and the other is the 22tcm/9mm. I have shot both well over 1,000 rounds and neither have given me a moments trouble.
Hereās a suggestion. Contact a reliable source(s) in Alaska and ask them what they recommend carrying. Chances are it wonāt be a Rock Island 1911.
