I’m curious how many others out there choose to reload. Their own self defense ammunition. If so what are your reasons. While some may say it cheaper. I don’t really find that to be true. Especially when you factor in your time. I do not progressive load. I truly hand load each round. The reasons I choose to reload my ammunition. Is performance based. I like the ability to tailor ammunition to each. Of my firearms. I find the reliability and constancy. Is far better then anything. I personally. Can buy of the shelf.

I buy my defensive ammo. Hell, I buy all my ammo.
I used to reload. Ever since I moved back to MI and I was limited to hunting rds, I sold my reloading gear.
I heard the rumor, myth that if you used reloaded SD ammo, it could be used against you. Not sure if true or not. Even when I was reloading, I bought SD ammo. Cheaper. I figure by the time you buy multiple pounds of powder, bullets, etc just to work up a load, I can buy a box for under $50. I’ve found the critical defense and gold dots are pretty dang accurate

That is a Interesting point about the legal aspect In court. That peaks my curiosity. My personnel feeling. Is that if that time ever comes. Which I hope never does. I rather fight that battle in court. Then on the street. Thanks for the input.

Totally agree on the legal aspect. Tried by twelve or carried by 6.
When I reloaded, it was one at a time also. No progressive press. It was fun but I was reloading for stuff like the 458Lott, 416 rem 375HH. Not something I’ll shoot hundreds of rounds with at 1 sitting. I also loaded hunting rounds for the 44mag and 357. Target shooting i just bought factory

I buy a new box or two every year.
Range ammo is a different story
Gary Cooper in High Noon took out an entire gang bad guys with only 20 shells he buys in the beginning of the flick.

The first round you reload is VERY expensive, and after that the per unit price comes down very slowly. OTOH, reloading can be an almost zen- like experience. Given the time differential I prefer to spend those hours practicing. If you have insomnia maybe reloading isn’t such a bad idea.

Stopped reloading a few years ago, hoarders where making it a pain just to source primers, combining the cost of time and individual components made it not worth the trouble anymore. I buy a few cases of what I like to shoot from Lucky Gunner or LAX ammo.

It did get pretty tight. Getting stuff for a while. I agree with you there. Its alot better now. I really don’t reload to save money. Its a hobby for me. I like the load development. As well as finding that sweet load especially for my rifles.

Usually I agree, and in theory. I still agree.
I had one rifle that was junk. It was kimber in 30-06. After about a year of working up loads, best I could do was 7moa or so. Gave it to a buddy of mine who’s has been reloading longer than me and he couldn’t do much better.
Sold the dang thing. Thinking back I should have just rebarreled it but…
Reloading is fun. Fortunately I have had more positives than the 1 negative.

Never reloaded.
I do keep my .50BMG brass, that’s a round I do not want to F’ up reloading!
And if I ever want to shoot my 45-110 sharps beyond the hundred rounds I have, I will by necessity have to reload them….
100% factory ammo for SD/home defense though!
Colorado will charge you with intent to cause harm if you’re carrying the wrong ammo!
And shister lawyers will ask why you had “Critical duty” rounds in your carry gun instead of “critical defense” if you’re not an on duty officer.

Good enough for the cops, its legal for me…considering the cops are 10 minutes away.
If it comes to trial, critical defense vs critical duty is the least of my worries

The “intent” thing though is in reference to particularly the Hornaday Zombimax rounds,… it’s exactly the same load as the critical defense load,… just a green tip instead of red.
But because of the label, they claim you’re out with intent because zombies aren’t real. (At least so we are told)

Multiple states have “intent” laws. Colorado landed on that one.
I’m pretty certain they’d call the RIP rounds or penetrator rounds intent as well.
Its a crock of ■■■■. We all know some laws need to be changed.
