I find my shooting hobby is supported by both leatherwork and woodworking.
There is just too much shooting accoutrements I find more advantageous to make myself.
Of course that leads one down a GAS rabbit hole—not only for power tools but for traditional hand tools, which are often obtained used and abused, so there’s tool restoration to consider----another rabbit hole.
Actually it’s kind of fun!
It starts innocently enough—wood loading blocks, shot shell carriers, target stands, a magazine carrier, etc…
Has anyone else here descended down the rabbit hole?
I have two entire rooms in the house dedicated to my main hobbies ( hunting, fishing, shooting, bows, cross bows, knives, axes, tomahawks, swords, prepping and what ever I have scattered throughout the house.
I have been making knives from rough blades and deer horn and deer leg bones for handles and making my own knife cases. I also like to refurbish old knives. Sometimes Nancy just shakes her head.
Coaching 4H. I get to go to the range, and, I get to help ensure the next generation truly understands firearms. Bonus, it’s an excuse to buy firearms, and firearm accessories.
Conditioning and preparation.Another “2 room guy” here, though it’s really one 2A room, a fitness room, a bugout room, and a mechanical shed . I seem to be getting older, but still spend quite a bit of time maintaining fitness, running and weight training, though lately it’s mostly been house projects preparing for our escape out of the communist corner of the US. Shooting is a great activity, and I feel it goes hand in hand with being in shape. “run and gun” vs. being not much more than a target. The other thing is preparation, based on “2 is 1, 1 is none.” Back ups for heat, electricity, water, food etc…so I process wood for the stove, built an 0ff grid solar panel system, have a few types of water filtration, and a real good knowledge of the surrounding woods, and potential bug out spots. Lots of tools to get and keep all the engines running. All the stuff is making the house prep for sale a nightmare, but the incentive is strong.
My career was in metalwork, tight tolerance exotic metals that went into things that make a lot of noise. Firearms were a natural extension.
