Record number of guns confiscated at airports

I saw the other day that a record number of guns were found at airports last year, many loaded. How stupid can people be? I suspect many never took any safety courses or bothered to know the laws. Some offered the excuse I forgot, How can one forget they have a gun? Owning a gun bears responsibility, same as owning a car or power tool and misuse can have deadly results.

This, Fred, is the fip side of 2A. Nearly anyone can get a gun, but no requirement for training, storage, or even any knowedge at all…including which end is which.

This reminds me the old thread on this Community, where we’ve discussed if gun owners should attend mandatory training / class before carrying the firearm.

Unfortunately a lot of people treat the handguns as another “thing” in their purse, briefcase or bag. Responsibility doesn’t come within gun purchase. It is not written on any receipt or manual.
(I’m wondering if such people read those )
I’m hoping these acts of irresponsibility are punished good enough to make those people think.

As @Brad posted - flip side of 2A.

Welp! They don’t get to keep their guns! That’s that! Know the rules and ignorance is no defense. I’m wondering now what the response is. Are the Consequences more then just loosing your gun. Can you not fly now? Would there be charges filed that may affect your ability to purchase a firearm in the future. If so, you’d then have to get rid of all your guns.

Name a single topic where that is true. I look at driving. We hand out licenses like they were free candy. The cops enforce almost no rules. No training is required. People go out and kill themselves and others with vehicles all of the time. Nearly all of it avoidable. If they ticketed people who went across the yellow, and took their licenses and vehicles after the third offense, There would be four guys still allowed to drive…in the country.

Lots of people loose their driving privileges every day. Last I checked, most people have to take two tests and train for 6 months before they qualify to drive. Not sure what your asking me to give you an example of. Now that I’m thinking about it, the driving thing proves that training doesn’t really make a difference for morons. They are going to do moronic thing no matter what. The two can’t really be compared though. Ones a privilege and the other is a God given right. You cut out the saying “ignorance is not a defense”. I’m not sure why. That was something that the USCCA taught me, for free actually, and it drove me to try and learn as much as possible. That’s why I know you can’t just hop on a plane packing heat. There are ways to fly with guns but you have to research how.

You just do not realize how many get a CCW, buy the handgun and then put it in the closet

No where near enough, IMHO.

You’re right about morons, but we let them drive, and even pass them during testing.

It’s better for them to put the firearm into the closet than bring to the airport.

I’ve heard of a few instances where someone had a firearm, or other weapons, in their carry-on bag. It usually happens when someone has an everyday carry bag that they decide to use as a carry-on bag, and forget to thoroughly check each pocket to make sure there are no weapons, ammo, or even empty shell casings in it. This is more common than we may think. I was in a conversation where multiple people have been in an incident where firearms-related objects were found in their carry-on during the security check.

I would just advise that if you are going to use a bag that you use on a regular basis when boarding a plane, be sure to check it properly before leaving home with it. It also wouldn’t hurt to have a second pair of eyes check inside of it too.

Somewhere, maybe.

I last had to demonstrate to an examiner that I could put a vehicle onto a public road without hitting anyone, and get it off again — over 50 years ago. I occasionally have to demonstrate my color vision, the ability to tell a stop sign from a cow sign, and that I could guess 70% on a short multiple choice test.

My license was handed out like 5¢ beer, with free refills every ten years. Easier than CCW in most places, and it is honored for full Class C privileges anywhere in the nation.

Neither demonstrates competence or familiarity with the attached responsibilities.
Sorry for ranting off-topic. A little… :hugs:

There are pro and cons about first time gun buyers taking a mandatory safety class, I believe it stop some dumb things occurring, but not all. You do not have pass a IQ test to get a gun or a drivers license. Maybe you have pass a moron test…

I agree. Make good rules. Enforce those rules. Done.

And a voting test. I’ll never understand why people who don’t know what they’re voting for are allowed to vote.

It’s kind of like a certain famous (infamous?) actor who allegedly killed someone and didn’t even pull the trigger. He claims he pulled the hammer back and the gun went off. He doesn’t like guns, knows nothing about them and should not be handling a firearm seeing he doesn’t take the time to follow safety protocols. I get that someone might not feel their firearm on their side but to completely forget it’s there? If someone were to attack them would they also forget that they have the means to protect themselves and get killed without even drawing their weapon? Do these people have any situational awareness or is their head buried in their cell phone? You just can’t fix being dumb.

You mean like, with an appropriate voting test, we never would have had this “game show host” business to deal with in the first place?

Not sure how that relates to the topic of travelers with guns in carryon bags failing TSA screens.
Exercise of constitutional carry where prohibited = too dumb to vote?

Forums are like this. You’ll have to read through it all to see!

Forums (as nice as this one is, comparatively) are just about the worst way to communicate.
