Due to the nature of where I live - just me, my roommate/landlord (who is a borderline hoarder, the place is full of stuff that’s been bought, and never unboxed), and 2 cats, never any visitors or kids - my only concern is my monster kitty stepping on the trigger, thus I don’t leave a round in the chamber at home. Otherwise, my handgun is on my hip or my desk, and my shotgun lives behind the bedroom door. All guns are loaded, but no round in the chamber at home.
BTW, as a PSM, if you use a ‘gun safe’ you might seriously want to check out LockPickingLawyer’s YouTube channel. Most ‘gun safes’ are easily opened, usually faster than it took your credit card to charge. Here’s his video list, just look through it and you’ll be appalled at how easy trigger locks and gun safes are to open: youtube.com/c/lockpickinglawyer/videos
If you use one, make sure you get a good one.
