Range targets - show them off!

I think you’re good. The only screws in a 1911 are the grip screws, and I don’t recall any screws in any of my Springfields.the grip screws are only 5mm long or so

So I went to the IDPA WEB SITE - AND LOOKED UNDER CLUBS IN NYSEE BELOW

I DONT KNOW IF THEY OFFER IDPA BUT BEST IF YOU CAN FIND ONE THAT DOES.
PHONE - TALK TO THE MATCH DIRECTOR, TELL HIM WHAT YOU NEED/WANT : IE COMBAT PISTOL/IDPA TRAINING
ASK HIM FOR INFO ON TRAINERS AT HIS CLUB OR OTHERS IN NY, AND IF THEY SPONSOR IDPA MATCHES.
OR JUST BASIC “COMBAT PISTOL”.
PROBABLY - NO.

HOWEVER JUST SIMPLE “PISTOL SHOOTING” IS A “START” BUT NOT THE LEVEL YOU WANT TO BE AT.
I UNDERSTAND YOU WANT TO LEARN HOW TO ACTUALLLY “FIGHT” WITH A GUN - IF FORCED TO.

“MOST ANYONE” CAN TEACH YOU “FLAT, RANGE SHOOTING”.
YOU NEED MORE THAN THAT - YOU NEED “DEFENSIVE”/“ACTION” PISTOL TRAINING.
IF YOU CAN FIND IT.

IF FLAT RANGE SHOOTING INSTR IS ALL YOU CAN FIND THEN AT LEAST YOU WILL GET TRAINED IN
THE FUNDAMENTALS - GRIP, STANCE, TRIGGER, SIGHT ALIGNMENT, SIGHT PIC, ETC, AND MAYBE
EVEN THE “DRAW TO DEFENSIVE POSITIONS”-BUT I SERIOUSLY DOUBT IT.
THOSE FUNDAMENTALS FORM THE BASIS/FOUNDATION FOR ALL PISTOL SHOOTING.
AND “NECESSARY” FOR ADVANCING TO COMBAT/DEFENSIVE PISTOL SHOOTING.

IF YOU LIVE CLOSE TO A BORDER STATE YOU MIGHT - AGAIN GO TO IDPA WEB SITE FOR A BORDER STATE AND LOOK THERE.

IF YOU WANT TO GET GOOD AT THIS - YOU NEED TO “AT THE LEAST” GET SOME SERIOUS TRAINING - ESPECIALLY IN THE FUNDAMENTALS
OF “PISTOL SHOOTING”. THEN - LATER - “COMBAT PISTOL” - IF YOU CAN FIND SOMEONE.
IF NOT - COME VISIT ME - YOU WILL GET AN EYE-FULL - THEN SOME.
SEND YOU BACK A “GUN FIGHTER” :slightly_smiling_face: ERRR “DEFENDER”
AGAIN “I” AM STATE AND DHS CERTIFIED INSTR, AND DO TEACH ALL THIS - FROM FUNDAMENTALS TO ACTUAL FIGHTING WITH A GUN.
AND HAVE TAUGHT POLICE IN THE PAST.
DOWN HERE IN TENN - IT GETS SERIOUS - WE DONT “PLAY” :slightly_smiling_face:
“YOU HAVE NO IDEA” :slightly_smiling_face:
SEND YOU BACK TO NY A “SERIOUS GUN FIGHTER”.
ERRR THE PC TERM “DEFENDER”.
TEACH YOU HOW TO PUT “LEROY” ON THE RUN - WITHOUT FIREING A SHOT.
PS I AM STATE AND DHS CERTIFIED AND HAVE HELPED TRAIN POLICE/SHERIFF IN THE PAST, AND SWAT.

FUNDAMENTALS: YOU NEED TO JUST START
STANCE, GRIP, SIGHT ALIGNMENT, SIGHT PICTURE, DRAW, TRIGGER CONTROL/MANIPULATION, MALFUNCTION TYPES AND CLEARING, ETC.
BEST IF YOU CAN FIND A “COMBAT PISTOL TRAINER” - IDPA, IPSC, 3GUN, MULTI-GUN, ETC.
“NOT” “COWBOY” - THEY USE OLD REVOLVERS, LEVER RIFLES, DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUNS, ETC.

YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW TO “FLY THE PLANE” FUNDAMENTALY AND HOW TO HANDLE TROUBLE ISSUES -
BEFORE YOU START MAKING BOMBING RUNS AND FLYING AT NIGHT IN BAD WEATHER.
GUN TROUBLE ISSUES IN "COMBAT SHOOTING’ - SPEED RE-LOADS, MALFUNCTION “TYPES” AND CLEARING MALFUNCTIONS IN A SECOND OR 2(AT MOST), MORE.
SQUIB LOADS, MIS-FIRES, ETC - HOW TO HANDLE. EXA - A “SQUIB LOAD” CAN BLOW YOUR GUN UP AND HURT YOU - BAD.
“DEFENDER” IN TENN/CHATTANOOGA

Okay, before ya’all start busting my jingle bells I want you to know what training targets should look like.
30 feet weak hand and then strong hand. 7 rounds each
10 feet weak hand and then strong hand 7 rounds each
15 feet point shooting weak then strong hand 7 rounds each.
10 feet weak hand head shot point shooting
20 feet 5 rounds reload then 5 more rounds timed.

The shoulder shots were aimed for the top Delta part of the targets going one shot on the left then to the right shoulder. I did this as a moving target practice without the target moving.

My reload rounds were a little hot ++p so it shot a little high. These are things to learn at the range.

I mean, if you wouldn’t have explained the drill, I would have said I expected better from you, sir. Given the drill, I’ll put my precisely machined jingle bell buster away, and say well done! Definitely better than this guy could do with that!

@moderators @USCCA

Hey folks, here’s a weird one. There’s an orphan post two messages up that has a link to a another post, but none of the regular post stuff around it (author, like, reply, etc.)

What is your question?

No question. Just a note to the mods that there seems to be a forum software glitch. I’ve never seen a link like that between posts. It seems to follow your post, @Todd30, but isn’t part of @Levi2’s post. And there are no controls attached to it.

The thread got attached to this one it seems

It was an interesting video though!

Old man, 10 yards, double and triple tap drills Springfield hellcat 3 inch barrel. Not what I used to be 30 years ago but it’ll get the job done 147 grain Federal.

Old man… still good hits. :+1:

Tricky question… have you ever found the reason why do you shoot a little to the right?
I’m left handed and get similar results… and it’s not bad trigger control… :face_with_raised_eyebrow: :person_shrugging:

Wind😁

Grip loose, thumb loose?

Yeah… wind seems to be the real reason…
I just realized my Range has AC unit on the left side… Next time I’m there I will just shoot from target’s line towards the booth. I’m wondering if the “theory or the Wind” will be confirmed or disconfirmed…

I think I know the answer … Yes I’m left-handed also. Without thinking close your eyes extend your arms forward and clap hold your hands together in a prayer type position. Now open your eyes and see which direction your hands are pointed. When I do this I am slightly to the right. That is my natural center line and I have to be aware of it. I too worked on trigger control forever thinking that would solve it. But when you’re moving quickly such as triple tap drills you tend to naturally come up to your center line.

On edit. I know my dot is zeroed perfectly with a bench rest. My first inclination was to slightly cheat my zero to correct but chose not to. I now see this as a slight benefit because notice what vital organ being left-handed the shots are covering.

That’s why I called it “tricky”

I tested and checked everything that could caused slightly off hits… No issues there.
Natural center line is where it should be.
Stance, grip, trigger control - all good here.
I found these above are perfectly fine during stationary shooting. This problem occurs only when I shoot dynamically - natural speed draw stroke, shooting while moving, multiple targets, etc…

Well I’m at a loss then unless momentum during the draw stroke while moving is causing it. Other than that I think it may be above my pay grade. I know when I shot ipsc I wasn’t concerned about not being perfectly on target as long as they were acceptable hits going through the obstacle courses it was about speed and Target acquisition

I have heard that if you don’t see your target before you start moving your gun toward it you will over shoot. Hope this helps.

Yes that the truth. And because I’m always looking at the thread / target before moving (running) - this is not the case.
That is one of the mysteries hard to be solved… :ok_man: :man_bowing: :man_facepalming: :man_shrugging:
