Political Conversations in the Online and In-person

The perfect example of why Red Flag Laws don’t work well. Lol.

From other forums using this software, if you flag it, it disappears from your view. If more than one person flags it, it disappears from everyone’s view, or it shows that message something like “this post has been flagged would you like to see it anyway? yes/no”. I imagine there is a threshold where if X people flag it then no one sees it until a moderator looks at it.

If the post has a lot of likes and flags (likes before it gets flagged), the moderator (i assume) would have discretion as long as the post was within the guidelines, but maybe controversial they could release it.

I don’t think this forum is configured in those ways. I believe flagging alerts the moderator.

Sorry, to be clear, it always alerts the moderators. I was addressing whether people would still be able to see the post afterwards which would either allow/prevent more people liking or flagging it.

I do not believe that a user action impacts the visibility of a thread or post. @Dawn - can you help us understand the mechanism behind flagging a post or thread?

I’m going to try and stay out of them, everyone’s political positions are already staked out. No amount of facts is going to change either sides votes.

It shouldn’t be this way. The 2A is clear, but yet unfortunately firearms are a political item. Until the 2A ceases to be a political item and all our rights within the Bill of Rights are granted to us, any topic involving firearms is one close tangent away from devolving into a political conversation/argument. Add in a persons right to defend oneself, and we are automatically in political discussions that masquerade under the guise of the law.

My pledge is to do what I have tried to do in the past. State my piece, perhaps field a follow-up response to reinforce or clarify points or references I have made, and leave it at that. I have long learned that political discussions are next to worthless as neither side is going to give. So, keep that in mind everyone. State your piece but understand the likelyhood of you changing someone’s position is about as likely as you changing yours. Not a criticism but simply trying to set the expectation to try to keep things civil.

I figured out over the years that when talking to somebody about politics or religion and or any other sensitive subject for that matter is a few rules that I stick to. 1# never make jokes. I realize the lot of people take their opinions very seriously especially politics and religion, so I try to stay away from jokes. 2# talk soft, raising your voice only causes problems I promise you that.3# when the person you’re talking to starts to repeat the same thing over and over the conversation is over.4# I mean number for is the most important, go into every conversation knowing that you’re probably not going to change that person’s mind.

Please use the flagging to help us keep the Community a welcoming place! If you flag a post, it is hidden form your view. If multiple (3 at the present moment) flag the same post, it will be hidden from everyone’s view.

Every flag alerts the moderator team here and we check those alerts first.

Everyone in the Community is, in essence, helping moderate the Community. The interactions of our “regulars” should be examples of the respect level we expect in conversations. When that doesn’t happen, it’s harmful to the overall Community atmosphere. As responsibly armed Americans, we should be holding ourselves to high standards when we carry - that should also apply to our written communications about carrying.

Hope that helps!

^^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^^ for the win!

If you can’t hold your tongue, do you really expect to hold your fire?

I am bumping this topic up to remind EVERYONE that nasty behavior, name calling, racist statements, and personal attacks are NOT allowed in the USCCA Online Community.

If that behavior occurs, the comments and threads may be closed and/or deleted.

Due to the amount of disrespectful conversation in the Breonna Taylor Case Indictments topic, the entire topic was deleted.

Please remember the purpose of the USCCA Online Community is to provide a welcoming place to talk about all things self-defense for people from EVERY background.

Scroll past anything political. It isnt worth the time to argue with people about politcs. Its like arguing what is the true religion. All it does is get everyone fussy and cranky.
