Open carry or conceal?

I’m not sure how prevalent open carry in the real Wild West was vs the movie and TV series versions. Lots of stories of how settlers had to go and get their rifles when trouble showed up. Not sure what percentage of people actually even owned handguns back then?

Not to mention there were a lot of small revolver and Derringer options available back in those days. Suspect concealed carry was a thing even back then.

These people are bestowed with authority and the display of weapons is part of their persona.

As a “civilian” we have no authority to display!

My understanding is that shotguns were the most common, and often the only, firearm.
