New Shooter Monday: What is the best ammo brand?

Sh-h-h-h. Let them keep thinking they’re not HP. It’l fit in nicely with all the other ignorance they show regarding guns.

I agree. If they want to say they are not JHPs the are not JHPs!

My Ruger wheelguns get fed a steady diet of Buffalo Bore. The Redhawks and new model Blackhawks get the .44 Magnum +P+, the older three screw Blackhawk gets the standard pressure version. My EDC runs on Underwood xTreme Defender +P. I have never had a failure with either brand.

I don’t plink with these. I have a .22LR for that, and Remington bricks are perfectly adequate for that.

It hurts less while penetrating the skin when you use bullet with tip. :slightly_smiling_face:

That must be it! We don’t want to hurt anyone!

I thought the purpose of the NJ no HP law was to increase the chances of death and injuries to innocent bystanders while decreasing the potential harm to criminals? The Hornady critical bullets clearly do not meet this goal. Nonsensical laws often get nonsensical exemptions.

Personally when I want to trust the ammo I am using to not fail in a competition I use Federal. I have just seen the best results with it so far. I always waited for the big Black Box sale on Black Friday to pick some up. You have to make sure you send in the rebate form though!

…smiles in 2k rounds of federal 5.56 @ .25 cents/round after rebate…none of which has been shot yet.
Saving the good stuff for my 80th birthday :sunglasses:

Think I have about 9-10 brands at the moment. PMC, ppu, Remington, Winchester, Freedom Munitions, wolf, IMI, aquila, federal,Igman, Malaysian surplus, cci, hirtenberger…well, that’s 14… Happy with all of it. …

I am not particular regarding range ammo, as long as it is factory. I will not shoot reloads, but that’s just me.

For me, Hornady Critical Defense loads are my preference. BTW, Hornady is a little slower than most of their competitors. I like a little slower, but in no way are they too slow. The plastic tips are imho essential for semi automatics. But that comes from being issued a WWII era 1911 as my first duty gun.

Generally speaking, I use Federal & Hornady

Any thoughts on IGMAN .223 55 grain? There’s some good deals on it but I tend to believe the “if it’s too good to be true it probably isn’t”. But the price is hard to say no to if it is reliable.

Could not find anything bad about it. :us:

Is Igman ammunition any good?

Image result for igman 223

Igman has been in business for more than 60 years and is growing. Their American focused production has all the tell-tale signs that it has been produced properly, and the reviews are overwhelmingly positive for the load . For a 55 grain FMJ 5.56x45 load, the price is exceptional.

If Igman ammo has been around for 60 years it’s worth a shot giving it a try. My AR 15 M&P Sport II will feed these I’m willing to try them. They also look well constructed and a decent price will seal the deal.

This is the main ammo I use. It’s not an exclusive list and I’ll shoot other brands and weights but this is what I mostly have.

9mm

  • 115gr Blazer Brass for Target
  • 124gr Sig v-crown for defense

5.56

  • 55gr Hornady Frontier

.22

  • 40gr CCI Mini Mag
  • 40gr Federal

:sob: It’s just too bad all my firearms were lost in a boating accident so I can’t list them.

I was blessed with 300 rounds of 556 by @Craig6 and they were reloads and they fired flawlessly. I still have about 100 rounds left of that ammo and intend to use it soon.

That’s a good deal @Johnnyq60 and a great gift. Especially these days with ammo prices.
