MossBerg 590 Shockwave

Picked up a MossBerg 590 shockwave today, anyone have any experience with one. Seems to Hand well light weight, fairly well balanced. In my opinion seems to be ok for home defense door gun.

Another similar priced Mossberg is the Maverick 88, it has an anti jam elevator, 18" tactical barrel and comes with a full length interchangeable barrel, it also is interchangeable with all Mossberg 500 parts. It shoots well with the tactical barrel, good balance, with a pistol grip it does kick pretty good though. You might get lucky and find one for around $ 250.

The Maverick 88 and Mossberg Shockwave are two different guns entirely except using shotgun ammo. Primarily because the Shockwave has a 14" barrel and raptor grip, not pistol grip.

I’ve had the Remington Tac 14 for a couple years now and, to say the least, it’s a difficult gun to shoot accurately. It can be shot at eye level but even then the tendency is to shoot high and left (I’m right handed) because you’re looking over the top of the barrel rather than perfectly straight down the barrel. Hard to explain but that’s what happens.

It only became a viable home defence firearm, for me, after adding the Crimson Trace laser sidesaddle. It’s highly accurate - even at 25 yards (that’s as far as I’ve shot it), very fast and with low recoil ammo (under 1200fps) very fun to shoot all day. I keep it loaded with Federal Tactical low recoil 8 or 9 pellet buck with Flitecontrol wad, 1150fps.

If I had it to do over, I’d probably get the Shockwave because it has two extractors; the Tac 14 has one, although I’ve not had any issues.

Only owned a couple of shotguns & they all shot high. I was
kind of looking for a shockwave before everything went nuts & I’m pretty sure the best way to shoot it is with a laser of some kind. Just better all the way around.

I have the Shockwave in 20 ga. Pretty much SkippySanchez has it right, sidesaddle laser makes it way easier to aim and shoot. Made a wall panel out of an old concrete form, 2X4 with half inch plywood, 3 inches of pink panther and half inch of sheetrock. Slugs and 00 buckshot ripped it all up at 20 feet. Haven’t found any low recoil or bird shot for 20 ga. It is fun to shoot…outdoor…would make a mess in the house.

After shooting it I see the need for the laser it would definitely help aiming for sure. Ran good bit rounds through it, recoil isn’t real bad to say but you must hold to it for sure.

Have an adapter in my mossy to shoot the short shells ( 1 & 3/4 buck) runs fine & more rounds in the tube…
