It’s a small thing. Fudds don’t get upset please. But to be able to say “Merry Christmas” at least for me and my wife without getting stares and verbal interruptions like, “Muslims don’t celebrate Christmas” is going to make this year special when visiting those fools trapped in the city. No whispering this year.
I think saying Happy holidays reinforces the fact that everyone has the right to believe in what ever religion they want.
Thanks, Merry Christmas to you also. It’s a little early for me to go to bed, good night.
I’m not disagreeing at all. I think that’s an awesome moment when the First Lady got “corrected” by a little child.
However, I think the happy holidays versus Merry Christmas is about more than being politically correct. The longer I live, the more I see a lot of people motivated by fear in our world. I think a lot of people are afraid to say Merry Christmas out of fear of the fallout. So when I have someone say happy holidays I often say Merry Christmas back to them not to correct them, but to let them know it’s safe to say merry Christmas to me. I almost always Herat merry Christmas said back.
I also think happy holidays can be said to include both Christmas and new years (they are a week apart after all).
I also think we need to be careful that we don’t assume the motives of others. Happy holiday might not be a sign of negative motived. It might be said with the best of motives at heart.
This is not meant to be push back or a wet blanket on the discussion. Just my $0.02. The video was a great moment. I love all the things little kids say. And appreciated the thought provoking exercise.
You’re free to celebrate whatever holidays your religion has, and use whatever greetings you customarily use, I was raised to say “merry Christmas”, and don’t forget the reason for the season.
I would love to know what hymnal that is from if you’re willing to share. I had to look up that verse. I remember singing this for the first time in elementary school (and often times after that) but I don’t recall ever seeing that verse worded that way-especially the line you pointed out. Two of the three hymnals on my shelf don’t have “What Child is This” in it at all. The third one doesn’t have the version in the hymnal you show.
Do not buy me a gift, make me something from your heart. Utilize some skills to create something special. That is what is special and unique.
Grandma knitted me a blanket. Grandpa made me a knife. I made my daughter in law a hope chest. I made my mom a gun holster. I did buy a book for my son, How to cook for dummies!
Well, this woke mentality is wrong in my opinion, it’s Christmas season so Merry Christmas to all. Saying happy holidays doesn’t make you politically correct, its being ignorant in my opion, it’s just in idoiligy to creat a big mixing pot. Christians deserve a Merry Christmas the same way Jews deserve a happy hanukkah, Muslims deserve a happy Eid, Indian deserve a happy Diwali.
