It’s a shame that we haven’t been able to attract more participants to your project @Frank73. Obviously, not everybody is using this equipment — but surely there must be more than three USCCA members who practice with MantisX enough to make an appearance.
There always seems to be plenty of enthusiasm for Monday-morning QB, or political hair-on-fire. Maybe not as much for firearm proficiency development/maintenance? Not sure whether there’s a way to spin it up.
Anyway, I’m not a huge fan of blind exercises, but I’ll take credit if I can go like this:
Okay all you folks (@Jeffrey14, @JohnD1952, @Douglas59, @Shepherd, @MAXIMILIAAN, – not to mention @Jerzees and @Fizbin, you stragglers , and others, because I can only mention 7 users in my post) who’ve mentioned you’re using or considering the MantisX system. Where the heck are you? You can make this thread, and this forum a lot more lively and on point if you’d care to join us.
Frank73, maybe if you added “tactical” and “challenge” to the thread title?
That was in my plans… even got Mantis X10… and gave it to my son.
I think such technology works better for young generation. I decided to rely on instructor’s opinions and advices.
I have been using the ELMS (Expert Laser Marksman System) by G-Sight. I haven’t purchased the Mantis X product. I may do so in the future. It is just that I practice a lot with the ELMS product and believe it has helped improve my live fire accuracy at the range.
If it’s in your budget, I would encourage it. I use MantisX and a laser cartridge at every dry fire session — one to train my hand, the other to train my eye. Neither is a full substitute for the other.
Some good shots manage to pull up a few clunkers. I’d rather be more consistent all the way through.
I’m “cheating” this week — not with EDC maybe a lot this month — working toward proficiency as a new red dot user with the full-size house gun. Even without an aiming point, the simple and clear picture makes it easier for my eyes to see a steady hold (altho yesterday’s blind results suggest I’m also getting used to the rougher trigger on the larger gun).
Hey, I try to engage and participate as much as I can. I log in everyday and am at about 400-500 days straight being here (I have a few badges on this alone). I don’t read every new topic staying away from politics and the wuhan, there is too much of that in my daily life, and come here to get away from that.
I don’t reply to every topic as sometimes when I get to them folks have already said everything I’d have said.
Specifically on this topic, I sadly have very very little time to shoot. Even less time to join in a challenge and compete potentially multiple times a week. Whereas it sounds like fun and adds some cool bonding and comradery to the community the best I’ll be able to do is watch, tease, and maybe heckle some of you.
The Mantis is a good system and worth every penny. I’ve had mine for about 5 years now. I’ve only used it a few times feel that it has great value in your personal training. They continue to send me emails on how they are making it better, and this thread is proof positive how it can help people get together and increase their skills while having fun.
We have a big “turkey shoot” (targets, three gun, also bow 3d targets) at Thanksgiving with a pretty large group of family and friends, this has inspired me to get it out and try and include it in the games.
@Fizbin, I’m teasing you and @Jerzees, precisely because you’re both so active. Glad you guys are here. (Sure would be nice if you’d join @Frank73’s challenge, though! )
