Man brutally attacking officer with hammer

With me, glasses on/off the sights are still blurry.
OEM sights on my G30 might as well be a Jackson Pollack painting

I’ve been in a few Gunfights. Some @ a distance, some UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL. The Up CLOSE were the ones when there was no choice but to fight. As the vid shown she was overwhelmed incredibly fast. Sometimes you CAN’T Escape and Evade. Sometimes you back peddle too fast and fall on your Ass (I did), trip over your own feet, hit a curb, a divot in the grass! Sometimes the SHTF RAPIDLY! and you HAVE to draw your weapon and begin defending you and yours. My Opinion and mine alone is the Detective ‘waited’ too long. WAIT FOLKS! It’s NOT her fault!. There is so much PRESSURE inflicted on People of the Gun NOT TO SHOOT! We see this all the time. People almost wait too long. Now BEFORE any go off on me half-cocked listen to why I believe what I just said. The CURRENT Climate is to TALK/Warn/ Do everything and Anything to avoid Gunfights. WE DON’T WANT TO GET ‘IN TROUBLE!". They don’t shoot until they could be VERY DEAD!. I’m NO LEO. never have been, I also haven’t been in many Gunfights in the States where Prosecution is common against Law Enforcement and civilians after a shoot! justifiable or not. In combat there is more
flexibility in your actions. Arm chair quarterbacking is at a minimum compared to lapel cam’s and MSM neophytes who have the time and the luxury after the fact to pick apart somebody’s actions and try to sway their viewers to their way of thinking (Bought and Paid for media). Some have no idea that the person defending themselves HAD to wait almost too long to justify the shoot almost to their peril. Some on this very site have ‘PM’ed’ me on occasion (because they didn’t have the balls to do it in an open post for all to see have called me ‘Blood Thirsty’ (and other variants of same) Having NO IDEA what I went through trying to impart just a little bit of my experiences that may help one person at just the right moment. The shocking events of being less than (5’) and closer is when TRAINING takes over and Muscle Memory begins. I’m no tactician, I’m not Certified in Anything either.
I’ve been to Thunder Ranch TWICE though. That helped build a foundation that has kept me alive. But when attacked and it’s close you SHOOT!Worry about Courts and lawsuits and criminal charges later. Survive to fight all that later, much later. YOU HAVE TO GET YOUR MIND RIGHT THAT IF THIS HAPPENS YOU HAVE TO SHOOT! My instincts for survival were honed and my Mentors were very sharp and wasted little time in pleasantries towards communication. And that is why I am here today to relay this message. When I was personal security and I was involved in a shoot/attack it was HEADSHOTS that stopped me from getting killed. Mr.Tate was VERY Lucky to Not being the newest member of the Chalk Line Club today. I (usually carry my trusty M&P 2.0 in 9mm w/ Sig ‘V’ crowns stuffed in the mags (17 rds) (3) of them @ least. IN Combat My M4’s standard (30) round mags (lots of them) w/ a Trijicon sight. In almost EVERY instance I’ve been in I had enough time to draw and focus on the attacker(s). I wish I had the knowledge available today through USCCA and other venues like we do now. Every last little bit of knowledge helps and that one thing you learn that may seem inconsequential may be the very thing that gets you home to your families later that night. You never know what’s going to ‘click’ and you will use it and save your own or somebody else’s life. I AIM FOR THE HEAD, ALWAY’s. Stop the threat. FAST! No Knee’s, shoot to wound, ‘belly wounds make people stop in their tracks (Bull feathers!) look at this Mook in the Vid. Did he stop? No he kept hard charging! Your life is in danger, don’t pussyfoot around with trying to save the attackers life or persuading them to repent their actions. It only takes one hammer blow to disarm you, hit YOU in the head, break you Gun arm etc. On (2) occasions it was Headshots Point blank. In a crowd, too many people and somebody tried to get my charge. Fortunately they tried to get around me to get to them and that saved my people from death. Had they used some sense they could have just unloaded on their target and there would have been NOTHING I could have done to stop them. Like President Reagan, the Pope, John Lennon and others the attackers unloaded fast before being overwhelmed by armies of security. They hit their mark in those instances. The idiots that try to do a John Wilkes Booth flair get dead!. And fortunately (for me) that has been the case in most cases where I drew my weapon and shot them dead. The battlefield could vary. Airports ,City streets, Private Remote property but the outcome because of your training make the ‘where’ a non-issue. When I had both my legs I ‘grappled’ w/ at least (2) guy’s like Mr. Tate. They were on me so fast I practically Bear hugged both of them, weapon was already out and I fired. I didn’t dance with them. All had Guns all had Evil on their minds and YOU STOP THE THREAT FAST! Innocents abounded all around us, it’s too easy for these bastards to see they aren’t going to succeed and just start blasting like in a Mall or a school. The Kid who shopped in a Mall early this year? I believe heard gunfire, saw the threat and @ 30-40’ popped off a couple of rounds and stopped a Massacre. People still died, but way few than what ‘could have been’.
We’re human folks, we see something and our brain say’s’ Wait a minute, this is wrong’ or ‘I’m in trouble’. You react as fast as you can and sometimes it ain’t enough. Most of the time these attacks happened so fast I never got the chance to sight in on the target. I pointed and shot. that’s it. Gun is an extension of your arm/hand you point your arm you have an idea of where the rounds will go. End of story. We can only do what we can as fast as we can and try not to beat ourselves up over 'What if’s or I should haves.
YOU ARE ALIVE! Thank GOD! It sucks you have to shoot and possibly take a life but they asked for this GOD doesn’t want YOU DEAD! How can he experience down here if you are in the ground? That is my belief anyway.
Sorry Karacal! Here it is

Sorry brother, but I just don’t want to sound like an idiot when something so important is needed to say.
Maybe I think too much (not said by anybody i know)

As for the “Sights” my replacement XS Sights work wonders. I replace the standard White tritium’s the M&P had and it made a noticeable difference in shot placement and accuracy.

I’m looking at the XS Big Dot.
Or just work more on my POA/POI and save myself $130

Honestly brother, As I said, UP CLOSE sights (for me ) didn’t come into play.
Now at the little ‘Airport’ Incident I related to you guys, SIGHTS VERY IMPORTANT!

If using a firearm to stop an imminent deadly threat, we want to shoot to stop. Shooting to stop defaults to higher center mass. Leg shots are difficult and the risk of missing/having ricochets is greater going for a knee vs torso. I’ve had a good bit of training and nobody has ever recommended aiming for a leg unless a leg was the only shot available when a shot was necessary

Brother Don, seriously, thank you for sharing your real world experiences. Fortunately most of us have never had to defend our lives with deadly force, and it’s really very sobering to read your perspective. The more we know, and can learn from others, the better prepared we can be if the need ever arises.

Once again Brother I Thank you for the kind comments.
The hardest thing in relaying the messages I feel can help somebody is
NOT reliving it. I am Not successful in doing this.
This WAS the life I chose though and the experiences in saving a life or two
was very gratifying.
My guy’s had the same mindset and I was grateful for their brotherhood.
I still crave that and now that they are Gone from this Earth I am grateful once again to have you.

I can understand how difficult it is to re-live. Hopefully time, friends, family and God can continue to grow your peace and make the past less difficult. God bless, brother.

As potential, involuntary victims of crime-waves our “governments” have set up, we need to finally dispense with the “Hollywood” crap and nonsense we’ve been subjected to, and stick with the basics of defensive shooting. One thing to remember is that you can move your head, legs and feet FASTER than the center-mass of your body - a head-shot or leg-/foot-shot involves some degree of luck. STICK TO THE BASICS - and AVOID the temptations to become “a legend in your own mind”!

OMG, this is why I practice point shooting. I draw, shoot without looking down the sights.

I also wonder how much of this is because the attacker is a man and the officer is a woman? Not saying women shouldn’t be LEOs. Rather that the mentality of a lot of men is they don’t think a woman can react like a man will. TBH, lots of men don’t react aggressively enough in these types of situations. With all of that said I still don’t think women should be LEOs. Same reasons why a man shouldn’t participate in women’s sports. I’m a LARGE, height and weight, man. I would rather be dragged/shoulder carried by two men than dragged by 4/5 women. There by tying resources.

A worry I have is that in a mass shooting event, I understand they need to get the shooter first, would I be left out in the open or the last one moved because women know they won’t be able to move me easily or at all. Call me a bigot but I think there are roles men and women shouldn’t be allowed to do.

That reason you give, though
there aren’t strength standards for officers that reflect that, should men be required to regularly pass a physical fitness/strength test requiring they safety drag or carry a large person (while officer is in full gear of course)?

Because my (decent) understanding of law enforcement is that I don’t know of a single department whose patrol officers must pass physical standards to remain on the job, or any that have a test like that to get hired to start with
and I know many male officers who are not large and strong.

Seems like more of a fire fighter kind of standard?

IMHO, yes they should. How many of us have seen the rolly polly LEOs that couldn’t run from their patrol car to inside the doughnut shop? An excellent example of why it’s needed is the recent shooting in DFW mall. The LEO ran 400-500 yards, in full gear, took an accurate shot and dropped the shooter. Our military has to do a fitness test once a year. Why not LEOs. I’ve seen thugs that make Arnold Swartsenager look small. You think a woman can go up one of them? How much more inclined is a woman to draw and shoot because she knows she doesn’t have a chance against an ordinary man. Yes there are exceptions to this but not many.
