The best I did was enrolled into selective services as required by all High School students during the 80’s.

I played army many summers from 8-10 years old. I saw fighting military as hero’s.

Now 50 years later, I still see Soldiers as heros, although Ive become more knowledgeable on just how brutal being a touring soldier is.

You folks certainly experienced hell first hand.

I suppose its never to old to say, Thank you for your service and know many of us civilians respect and honor you courage.

Garand Thump recent video on the new M7 rifle. This one is in the civilian equivalent round known as the .277 Sig Fury. It is very close to the new 6.8 mm service round.

I one time got a bran new rifle in all the time I was in. My unit was sent to Puerto Rico to back fill a unit that was there. When they issued our rifles our mouths dropped, they were bran new never shot so we got to go to the range for some fun.

An assault weapon doesn’t exist but an assault rifle is a rifle with a pistol grip that fires an intermediate round. since this fires closer to a marksman rifle round I don’t think it would be classified as an assault rifle. so the AR 15 will (unfortunately) most likely continue to be there poster child.

If you’ll notice, I put “assault weapon” in sarcastic quotes. Arms are arms. None shall be infringed. Thanks for your attempt at a linguistic lesson.

yeah sorry about that. My nerdy brain quoting Brandon Herrera.
also sarcastic quotes and just normal quotes use the same symbol so I assumed you were quoting them saying assault weapon.

So does this new cartridge signal a departure of some sort from NATO standards?

Im not sure how NATO will respond

NATO: OK guys we finally got everyone transferred to 5.56 standard.

USA: Great news everyone.

It probably signals another billion tax dollars to everyone out there that used to use the NATO Standard hardware but now have to change to the new stuff to keep up with the Americans.

I dont’ really know but I’ll wager it’s a long time before a majority of US forces are issued .227 instead of 5.56

I’ve heard the new ammo cost 14 bucks a pop. Can anyone confirm this.

The civilian version retails for $4.00 per round:

It can be found for as low as $1.03 per round:

I am talking about the military grade hybrid brass and metal ones that aren’t available to the public yet.

As far as I know the Military 6.8×51mm Common Cartridge is the same as the .277 Fury. I.e.:

“It’s a hybrid three-piece case with a steel case base and a brass body connected by an aluminum locking washer to support chamber pressures of 80,000 PSI.”

The Military probably requires additional QC, possibly some lot testing, and certifications of origin of materials. This can obviously drive the cost up, but economy of scale very well might off-set those additional requirements. Only somebody in the Military chain of procurement could accurately answer your question.

You may be right but I’m not 100% sure.
