Not to derail the thread, but I have pondered reinforcing the door frame of a small closet and installing a metal door with a dead bolt as an alternative to the safe. Mainly for protection against a smash and grab, maybe with a few things that might not fit in a traditional safe…
Decent idea, or waste of time?
Not a bad idea but dont forget the hinges. If they are exposed (door swings out) make sure they are a quality hinge (steel not brass) and at least one has a non removeable pin (NRP). You can buy NRP hinges or make them that way yourself if you are handy.
