About how the word “hero” is used these days in news reporting. Audie Murphy certainly comes to mind, but another individual who has been lost to history is Gunnery Sgt. John Basilone, who received the Medal of Honor TWICE during WWII, in the Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima campaigns. His biography will bring meaning to the phrase “above and beyond the call of duty”. FYI
Excellent topic. Wise words given about using the word “hero”.
War History Online has a 2 minute introductory video about the legacy of Gunnery Sgt. John Basilone:
Best regards,
Jason
Those guys that jumped on grenades are hero’s. Brady that took a bullet for Reagan is a hero. The greatest hero of all time is Jesus. He sacrificed himself for all of us.
In direct contrast, and for additional reflection, look at the life and despicable behavior of Ted Kennedy - a Democratic “hero” of the Senate. I’m now 71 - Kennedy was a senator up and until his demise when I was 12 - a good reason for term limits, and the forced retirement of professional politicians, especially when they engage in criminal behavior, or behavior exposing them as outright crackpots.
Kennedy died in 2009…
Kinda like Joe Biden being in the Senate for 120 years?
