I'm looking to start wearing a shoulder holster

I’m learning the importance of a secure fit, that there be good retention. Especially if the holster’s ad description does not mention the model we have.

I guess there’s something to be said for the more popular or older hand gun models when holster makers have caught up to making a fit.

I noticed some holsters have retention adjustment, and or a little over strap to snap over the rear/butt or hammer nicely.

I like those which we can also strap or tie down the holster with one strap on each side connected to our waist belt or waist of our pants.

you’re learning many good things it seems best to ya

Hi burdo. I carry revolvers. Seems like most holsters are made for semi-autos. I ordered 8 different shoulder holsters. Some single right hand shoulder holsters. Some were double shoulder holsters, (he left and right hand shoulder holsters rig). From Amazon and dinosaursed. After trying them all on and wearing for a couple of days, I kept the single right hand shoulder holster from dinosaursed and the twin shadows double holsters rig from dinosaursed. They were great quality leather and a good price. I also kept a cheap double holsters rig from Amazon that was neoprene and some other material. The holsters were horizontal, not vertical. But your weapons have to be strapped in, (velcro straps), or they will fall out. But they conceal better. The Holsters were too big for my snub nose revolvers. So I had to shorten them a little bit. They all had little straps to go to belt loops or a belt.

Thanks for the tips Charles641. It’s a honor to hear from you.

Yes, I’m experimenting a bit with my rig set up. Coming to appreciate when the retention and fit is solid and secure. I regret I learned the hard way when it was a bit too loose. Serious stuff, yet fun.

Be well.

I’ve never believed in the hype of comfortable holsters of any kind. We didn’t grow up wearing them. But some are better than others. The most comfortable pocket holster I have is the one I made using a suade leather eyeglasses holder. Cut it to size, sew it up to fit. Use a rubber band as a retention strap.Protects your gun in your pocket and your pocket from your gun. It Also lends itself to a very quick draw. It is the cheapest, but very practical. I’ve carried both revolver and pistols several thousands of miles in mine. Never had a problem. Yes; I have a suitcase full of all kinds of the best, most comfortable, the best buy available, the quickest to draw from. Once a while I use one of those.
